2 Problems

Wayne,
Thanks for the reply.
I was just talking to Lonnie Drew and he had figured out the license was the
problem.
That is a good idea you have about installing locally. I might give that a
try Monday.
Thanks for being there because I'll probably have more questions next week.

Jim

It has its own serial number and activation codes. Did epicor remember to
send them to you, along with the standard ones? (they usually forgot ours
when I was back @ usaero) You can enter them during the server install, or
you may be able to run the "license update" from the Progress group (under
start / programs) on the server.

I've had better luck installing it locally on my PC, and that was Epicor's
recommendation last time I messed with it, too. Open the progress
directory on the Epicor CD, and look for setup.exe.

Try connecting to the DB from Report Builder, just to make sure it's
configured correctly on the server. You may need an entry in the services
file on the client
PCs. If they launch from a .PF file, you might need to tweak settings
there.

Just completed moving Vantage 4.0 from NT4.0 Server to souped up W2K Server.
Working well but have 2 problems.
I have never attempted this before and glad it has gone as well as it did.

1) Appbuilder does not work, Not sure how to install or find it on the new
server.
2) 2 custom written reports by a former employee (progress programmer) do
not work.
They point to a custom db that I have moved and have up and running on
the new server.

When I get app builder back up, how do I point the new reports at the custom
db.

All physical and network drive paths remained the same for ease of transfer.

All I had to do on the clients was remap the network drive.

RB and other custom reports that don't point to the custom db work fine.

Thanks.

Hi Jim,

1) Here's a copy of a shortcut to Provision Desktop from which I
launch AppBuilder....

X:\progress\bin\prowin32.exe vantage -q -N TCP -H Bdc_lon -S epic50 -
p _desk.p

This launches AppBuilder itself...

X:\progress\bin\prowin32.exe -p _ab.p

2) If the reports run from an icon, check the -p parameter to make
sure it points to the new program location. The shortcut can connect
to 2 or more DBs with the -db parameter. Here's an example...

X:\progress\bin\prowin32.exe vantage -q -N TCP -H Bdc_lon -S epic50 -
db x:\hr\hr_db.db -q -N TCP -H Bdc_lon -S HR -p x:\hr\SafeSchd.w

You might want to check the source code to see if the program
connects to the second DB "on the fly".

Feel free to email me directly today.

Lonnie
