After their performance in Mexico I actually think they could get to the final. Norway will be tough for sure and certainly not going to be an easy match, but if we get past them and face the same Argentina that Capo Verde faced they are definitely beatable. Assuming France make it to the final, not so sure they are beatable though.
Anyway, an optimistic England fan here.
Agreed…Norway’s no pushover. Erling Haaland always looks like a little kid at Christmas…seems so happy just to be playing the game.
Well, I can’t believe we are nearly at the end.
Yesterday was a real surprise, for me at least, I thought it possible that Spain could win, but I did not expect France to fail to turn up like that. I was really hoping for a more exciting match.
Onto today then. England vs. Argentina. Hard to know how to call this one. On one hand, given that Argentina scraped by Cape Verde and Egypt I would think that England should be the strong favourites, but this match up has serious “history”. Amazingly England have never faced Argentina in the era of Messi.
England have a strong history of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory 
so I think it’s too close to call but I believe England can win.

Well done Argentina, this world cup has been a story of resilience and belief for them, I am sure they are favourites to win it now.
And we have the slightly pointless third place match to look forward too. Only really interesting because it is possible the golden boot winner may come from that match.
Well, that was a lovely evening.
Thought the referee did really well to hold back his tears of joy when he finally got to shake Messi’s hand at kickoff. Quite nice of FIFA to let Leo play by the “do whatever you fancy, mate” rules. Truly inspiring.
A few other thoughts from a very calm, not-at-all-bothered observer:

The VAR: Pretty sure the VAR team went for a tea break every time Argentina defended. I assume they just had Homes Under the Hammer playing on the main screen.

The Banner: Always nice to get a cheeky bit of 1980s geopolitical banter from the crowd. Good to know they brought their history books with them.

The Group: Must be nice starting a tournament with three gentle pre-season friendlies against teams that looked like they’d won a raffle to be there.

Our Manager: Absolute tactical masterclass. Going a goal down and deciding the best response was to freeze completely and hope everyone just went home. Bold strategy.
Ah well. Standard, really. Off to stare at a wall for the rest of the day.
