4.0/New server/Performance monitor/CPU Maxxed

pid = Process ID, just a number that identifies the process to the O/S.

Okay tech types:

I upped 3.0 to 4.0 onto a new server (867 Mhz, single chip, 256 M ram,
mirrored hd drives & controllers) yesterday and have approx 14 of 20
clients running right now.

I noticed the server running slowly this am so I looked at the Task
Manager performance monitor and the cpu is pegged at 100%.

I fired up Admin performance monitor chart and plugged in all instances
of _mprosrv.exe, of which there are 7 running) and noticed the
following:

Process PID CPU
_mprosrv 79 00
_mprosrv 115 00
_mprosrv 205 00
_mprosrv 308 99
_mprosrv 317 00
_mprosrv 326 00
_mprosrv 331 00

So obviously one instance of _mprosrv is cranking all the time.

But what does this mean?

What is PID?

How many _mprosrv's should there be?

How should I look at this?

Absolutely any pointers will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Rick,
I received a document from Epicor awhile ago when I was
having performance problems, and they had me look at my startup.pf
file. Specifically, Epicor suggested that I modify the following:
-Mn (maximuym servers)
-Ma (maximum number of remote users per database server)
-Mi (number of remote users on a server before the
broker starts another server)
I have 59 users so I have my startup variables set at 4 (-Ma & -Mi)
and there are always
about 14 - 15 _mprosrv process' running at any given time on our Vantage
server.
Hope this helps.
Let me just clarify something in the email below just to minimize the
confusion for those that are new to STARTUP.PF. When it says 'servers' its
talking about server processes, NOT the physical server box. A server
process shows up as _mprosrv in the task list.
Its easy to get confused by this if you are relatively new to client/server
databases like Progress.

I just looked at my vantage.pf file and I don't even have -Mn, -Ma, -Mi.
Should I have and would it help? I have an NT4.0 Server box, 450Mhz single,
256 RAM
