4.00 to 5.00 ODBC problem

Make sure you save the password with your ODBC connection strings.

We converted this weekend from 4.00 to 5.00 348 and our using the SQL
ODBC driver with Access. We are having major problems getting this
to work. When we do a test connection it says the sql driver is
connected but when we try to refresh the access tables to the new
driver it gives us all kinds of errors. If anyone else is using the
SQL ODBC driver and have successfully converted to 5.00 could you
please contact me off list. Thanks in advance.
When I first set it up, there were some errors. I believe I wrote a message
to this list and called Vantage tech support and worked through them very
easily.

Unfortunately, I don't remember what they were or what the fixes were.
However, if you call tech support with the error message they should be able
to help you, or if you search old group messages with the error message,
you'll probably find some help...

Sorry... Someone else might remember more...

We ran the ODBC fix program from Epicor. Now I don't get any errors and I
can link the tables in Access and that comes up OK. But when you try and
run a report or guery Microsoft just hangs. When you go to the task manager
it now says Microsoft not responding. I have gotten a few reports to run
but if you get out of Access and back in and rerun the same report it will
now hang. We have brought in new tables and saved password but same
results. We use Access all day long to run everything from our schedules to
inventory etc. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. We are using
the SQLdriver 92. If we can't get this running we hopefully can go back to
3.6 89 driver.

I'm having the same issue with a few tables. From everything I have read it
seems to me that in my case I need to do an index rebuild.

Hope that helps

We have a new wrinkle. We can now run the programs after doing a registry
fix program from Epicor. However if you get out of Access and then go back
in to run a program you will get the error [MERANT][ODBC PROGRESS
driver][PROGRESS] Access denied(authorisation failed)(7512)(#-20228). The
way around this is to go to File, get external data like you are going to
get a new table then just say OK without saving password then you will be
able to run your Access programs as long as Access remains open. But if you
close Access then you will have to repeat the process of getting external
data. This is really a pain but at least we can now run the programs. I
will be talking with Epicor more on this.

Can anyone recommend a software package for Standard Operating Procedures
and Policies? We are in the process of reviewing and updating our manuals,
and we are looking for a software package or templates to try and
standardize the process.

Thanks,

We've used a product called Powerway. While a lot of people dont care for
it, (It is a VERY detailed document control system) I've found it invaluable
in maintaining our QS documentation. Its got some very nice features and is
modular in nature. The templets are very complete and it gives you a
vehicle for electronic document approval and NAG screens if your folks don't
like to read policy and procedure.

We use FrontPage and post it to our Intranet. When changes/updates happen,
we send out a hyperlink to everyone. That way - it is always updated and
current.

We used Powerway to help us get ISO certified. I would recommend it.
