5.0 to 5.1 conversion

Joanne,
Your server speed is the key to everything here. Our database was around 1gb when we converted from 5.0 to 5.1 last year. It took our Dell Dual 1.2Ghz with 1GB RAM about 45 mintues total time. On my 800mhz laptop (test machine), it took 7 - 8 hours. Our previous server (dual 450 mhz) took 10 - 12 hours when going from 4.0 to 5.0, but I think that may have been quite a bit heavier conversion than from 5.0 to 5.1.
As you probably know, you can always do a trial conversion on the side, even with your live database still running, just to do the numbers. I think most Admins who have been through the process would highly recommend doing just that... run a test conversion a number of times before doing the live conversion.

We are currently on 5.0 and want to upgrade to 5.1 shortly. Our
database is 1.2 gig in size. Could anyone tell me how much time
would be needed to do this conversion for this size database? We

appreciated.
Joanne,

When we upgraded from 5.0 to 5.1 last fall our database was 1.4gb and we
used a dell server very similar to yours.

Running SCHEMA Changes with crash protection off took: 4 hours
Database conversions on first login to 70 minutes.
Installed the 5.10.130 patch.
Database conversion again on first login took 120 minutes.
Create table references in data dictionary took 15 minutes.

I planned for a total of 12 hours of work and completed it in about 9 or 10.

We are currently on 5.0 and want to upgrade to 5.1 shortly. Our
database is 1.2 gig in size. Could anyone tell me how much time
would be needed to do this conversion for this size database? We
have a Proliant 3000 Pentimun 3 500 dual processor. Any response is
appreciated.

Our DB was about 1/2 your size so perhaps double these figures???
On single Xeon 550Mhz, 512MB RAM, Dual Mirrored disks, crash protection off
Schema change: 25 Min
Conversions: 55 Min
Also, this was immediately after 4.0 to 5.0 upgrade which included IDXBUILD so DB may have been in pretty organized shape.
