5.1 to 6.0 Upgrade

W98 works on 6.0, but the min sys req stated in 6.1 do not include W98 or
NT.

Going to 6.0 this weekend (support is going to be busy with all these
upgrades). Why would Win98 not work? It is still Progress 9.1D same as
5.2. I did hear, however, that Sonoma will require at least XP for the
clients for .Net compatibility since they will be mainly just a viewer with
little client level processing. Clients may also need lots more memory
(1GB) for Sonoma. But until then I'm planning to use our plain old Celeron
500's with 64MB and Win98 on shop floor.

We are also going to do the Upgrade from 5.1 to 6.0. We thought
client workstation requirements for 6.1 were Windows 2000 or XP?
Is this not true? Is anyone running 6.1 and using Windows NT on
client workstations?

Am I to understand that I can skip right past 5.2 and go from 5.1 to 6.0?

You don't have to stay on 5.2 for long......but you still have to do both.

You can skip "using" 5.2 but not any conversions along the way. So it would be upgrade to 5.2 and quick update to 6.0. My understanding is that most of the user interface changes and training trauma are in 5.2 (Engineering Workbench). 6.1 is out with similar minimal user effects so you could do sequential upgrades all in one shot, but setup a test DB and get a lot of user involvement in trying it out before converting live. The changes at the 5.2 level may require procedures changes and for sure will require reworking some RB and Crystal reports.

We're upgrading Vantage this weekend from 5.1, through 5.2 and up to
6.0. Anything I should watch out for? Has anyone encountered any
serious problems going from 5.1 to 5.2 to 6.0?

Thanks!

Erik
Erik,

Any particular reason for not going to 6.1? It's only a couple more
hours and is the last step before Sonoma. It has some enhancements over
6.0 that will have us updating in about a week or so. (It's installed,
IT just waited because they will have to install the client for each
user again, an additional requirement that you will have to do anyway
while going to 6.0).

Just my thoughts.

I'm thinking Epicor might be not supporting, because Microsoft won't
be supporting those Operating Systems...and that it is not actually a
problem using the older OS on the workstations? I am also curious as
to what of server you purchased, as we are also going to be looking
at purchasing a new server before we upgrade.

Go to 6.1 !!! I have been on 6.0 since last August. There are things
that are getting fixed in 6.1 (Last before Sonoma) that are not getting
fixed in 6.0 with no plans by Epicor to fix them. Isn't that wonderful
news...
