5.2 - Unable to Connect to Promsgs

You will need to change the server name in the default.mfgsys file and any other .mfgsys files that you have.

Also, change this in server\client\config directory so that next time you apply a patch it picks up the correct files...otherwise you will have to do this all over again.

We had to move Vantage to a different server - I am trying to add a new
computer to the server and we are getting an error "unable to connect to
promsgs"

Any idea's?

Thanks,

Dina

First thing I always check with a Vantage server change is the HOSTS file on the client. Remove all references to the old server and make sure the new one is there....assuming server name is different. Especially if the old server is still running on the network. If the computer being set up formerly accessed Vantage I would probably also empty the local work folder (vntg52wrk? can't remember what it was). Sort of worst case uninstall Vantage from the client and re-install (which will also fix HOSTS file). Real worst case uninstall Progress too, which gets sticky if the old server is not still available - often requiring manual registry removal.

I remember going through this eons ago. The problem is the registry entries in your client's machines are pointing to the old server install. A test might be to install a new client and see if it connects alright. I think that simply reinstalling does not fix the error either. Did you change the mapped drive as well?

There is a set of registry keys you can modify. I do not remember what they were. I think you might be able to search out that old drive letter within progress keys and modify them. The same maybe true for the server name.

This is completely off the cuff, but may help.
