We have had problem with the 5 user license when the user hits the back
button on the browser and queries another report. I setup a timeout to
release the license after it has been idle for two minutes by adding a
command to the WebComServer startup. I believe the default timeout is
20 minutes
WebCompServer.exe" -service -name SERVERNAME -ns SERVERNAME
-defaultSessionTimeout 2

Brian,
I did a WCS to Enterprise upgrade soon after Crystal 8.5 came
out (and before I realized that 5.1 didn't like Crystal 8.5). For the
web report everything went extremely smooth. I didn't have to change
one setting on the Enterprise edition to have my reports working again.
The installation CD recognized the WCS was there, installed everything
as configured, and worked fine. You can do some reporting things with it
that you never could with WCS. Particularly, you can use a RANGE in a
parameter (ie. Range of dates to input), whereas in WCS you have to use
two separate date fields to do the From and To.
The 5 user limit in Enterprise has never limited us -- with over
80 Crystal reports designed. The user license only counts while a
report is being "queried". Once it is on your screen, the license is
released. Once in awhile a login screen comes up on someone's screen
who has run a Crystal web report. Typing in Administrator and the
(Enterprise) password gets past the error. I've never learned why it
happens. Rebooting the NT workstation running the Web Server clears up
the problem. It only happens once in a couple months, it seems.
After discovering the problems in Crystal 8.5 with Vantage 5.1,
I uninstalled the Crystal 8.5 designer from the Crystal Development PC,
but this has never bothered or affected the Enterprise Server running
the Crystal reports. It could care less whether a report was written in
Crystal 7 or 8 or 8.5.

Dan,
Did you upgrade from WCS to Enterprise? If so, what was
involved?
Thanks,

Enterprise 8.0 which is a most robust version of the Web
Component
Server. You can still use the basic WCS that came with 8.0,
but
Crystal is pushing for Enterprise to replace it.
