6.1 & 6.0 Upgrade Utility

Dan,

Sorry for not responding earlier. We jumped from 5.0 to 6.0 on a
clean server. I installed it so that the Progress installation was
on the same share as the Mfgsys portion.

My server looks like this v:\ =Epicor on VntgServer
I have a path v:\mfgsys60 with all of the Vantage files.
I have a path v:\prgs91d with all of the Progress files.

I seem to remember an option in the instructions where you could use
the existing 5.2 installation of Progress or install it on the same
share. Since I was never using 5.2 I chose to set it up like this.

I just finished leap frogging my 5.0 database up to 6.1. I had a problem
with the new upgrade utility that started at 6.0.

I ran the utility and it made a copy of the db and then I got an error the
the DLC env. variable must have a valid dir/path. I'm not sure why, but
after I did things manually it worked.

I'm just curious if anyone else experienced this issue.

How did your epic52 get within the c:\epicor directory? If you follow

I cheated. I'm still on 5.0 and had read the directions first. If you are

We upgraded from 5.2 to 6.0. I was not in on the server installation, but I do the clients. When I install the software on the client, we have one mapped drive that contains the Epic52 and EPICOR folders. From what I hear, you have the choice of running the progress from the Epic52 location or from a new installed location. During the client install, it wants to be directed to the progress location. Once I tell it the Epic52 folder, it finds it.

I have had some problems while upgrading the clients from 5.2 to 6.0. If I try to run the upgrade without removing the 5.6, I get widget handle errors when attempting to run Vantage. When this happens, you have to uninstall it and clean the registry. It does put a lot of entries in various locations. Below is Epicor's document to clean the registries.

Good luck.

Title:
Uninstalling Progress by Removing Registry Entries Manually

SUMMARY:

Sometimes a 32-bit installation of Progress might be useless or a
removal of the previous installation version has to be done. This
solution details the Windows NT Registry entries that should be
deleted by hand before a new installation can be done.

SOLUTION:

To completely clean the Registry of references to Progress, delete
each and every subtree, its keys, the hive and values described here.
To find the CLSID entries, either use pure luck or search for the
installation directory name FX: (X relates to a SID created at install
time). Progress is installed in C:\DLC\ therefore search for DLC using
F3 in Regedit.

NOTE: Use the Regedit at your own risk because carelessness can render
the operating system useless. Always have a valid and up to date
backup (use REGBACK from the NT Resource kit)

Program Registry entries:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PSC
HKEY_USER\{X}\Software\PSC
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PSC
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlset\Services\Proservice(8x/9X)

Version 9.x entries:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlset\Enum\Root\LEGACY_ADMINSERV
ICE9.XHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlset\Services\AdminService9.X

Delete these sub-trees to remove all entries related to the Progress
executables. Most of the time this is enough cleaning and a new
installation can be started:

File extension association:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.CFG
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.Database
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.I
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.P
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.PF
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.PRL
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.R
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.UDF
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.W

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{X}\(Progress Version)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{X}\(Progress
Version)
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ProgressFileCFG-(Progress Version)
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ProgressFileI-(Progress Version)
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ProgressFileP-(Progress Version)
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ProgressFilePF-(Progress Version)
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ProgressFilePRL-(Progress Version)
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ProgressFileUDF-(Progress Version)
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ProgressFileW-(Progress Version)And

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\ProgressFileUDF-
(Progress Version)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\ProgressFileW-
(Progress Version)
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ProgressFileDB-(Progress Version)
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ProgressFileR-(Progress Version)And
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\ProgressFileDB-
(Progress Version) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\ProgressFileR-
(Progress Version)
Delete these sub-trees plus the CLSID number to remove all entries
related to the File extension association:

Program Entries:
HKEY_LOCAL_USER\Software\PSC HKEY_USER\{X}\Software\PSC
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PSC

Delete these sub-trees to remove all entries related to the Progress
executables:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows CurrentVersion\App
Paths
\PROWIN32.EXE
\SHOWCFG.EXE

Just delete this:

Uninstall information:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows CurrentVersion\Uninstall
\ProgressSoftware_1

Delete this sub-tree to remove all entries related to the Progress
uninstall (which properly failed since you are doing this):

Performance counters and Eventlog entries:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlset\Services\Properf8
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlset\Services\EventLog
\Applications\ProControl
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlset\Services\EventLog
\Applications\Progress
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlset\Services\EventLog
\Applications\ProService
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlset\Services\EventLog
\Applications\DATABASENAME

V9:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlset\Services\EventLog
\Applications\AdmService

Delete these sub-trees to remove all entries related to the Progress
performance counters.

Reboot and reinstall.
