Go to our files section at Yahoo groups; the link is at the bottom of
everyone of these messages Under Files -> PC-Utilities you'll find
PrintKey. It works in Vantage, and all other windoze apps as well. And
it's free. And it has an "alwayse greyscale" option.

I have many users who use the F6 key for print screens. In an effort
to cut down on the cost of color toner cartridges I have been asked to
see how I can get the default changed so that anyone using a color
printer will print these F6 print screens in grayscale. Has anyone
been able to do this, if so, is it a global change or user specfic and
where do I need to make the changes?

Thanks.

You might consider adding another printer to each computer, pointing to
their existing computer but specifying the grayscale option as the
default instead of having the default set to print in color. I am a
strong opponent of letting users have their default printer be a
color-printer (or set to print in color) for exactly the reason you
mention - cost. Most of the time, users don't need color anyway, and
for those rare occasions that they do, they can select the color version
of the installed printer instead of using their default.

Hope it helps. I realize, though, that I made a mistake in my previous
post.

In my earlier email, I wrote: "pointing to
their existing computer but specifying the grayscale option"

I meant to write: "pointing to
their existing * printer * but specifying the grayscale option"

You should be able to modify the print driver to be greyscale only. If you use a printer server for centralized print access, then this should be very easy to do. If each user has a direct connection to the printer in question, then the changes might have to be specific to each computer. Keep in mind, that this will make all print outs B&W. What I typically do is create 2 printer drivers for the same color printer - one B&W and one color.

As far as forcing windows to make screenshots in grayscale only, i don't think inherently it can do that, but there certainly are 3rd party apps (most free) that can facilitate this.

Thanks,
Kunal
