Yes, I got a call shortly after the posting from our CAM who had had the
message relayed from someone in marketing. We discussed the "mistake"
issue as well as options for getting a newer version of the SolidModel
Pro portion. Apparently Epicor has a "deal" with Oracle and it is
available to "add on" to the plain AutoVue part for about half of the
Oracle list price. Still very expensive to upgrade the 10 AutoVue seats
we have. For that we could buy several more "shared" licenses of
KeyCreator to convert the newer SolidWorks step files. I'm also looking
around for other universal viewer programs because our customer base
seems to use every CAD product under the sun and expect us to deal with
it.

Todd
It was an admitted mistake that they sent out the wrong (full solid
modeling) version at 17. I inquired last year and was knocked over by
the price of the Solid model version. I don't recall the amount other
than outrageous. We are still using 17.

Subject: [Vantage] [6.1 mostly] AutoVue Questions
For those with the AutoVue document management module....
Way back when we started using AutoVue there were two products on the
disk...AutoVue and SolidModel Pro. I quickly found that selecting the
SolidModel installation option also installed the rest of AutoVue wheras
the reverse was not true. Our users very much need the SolidModel
viewing for Step files. Later installation disks with 6.x, and now 8.x,
do not have the SolidModel option.
I'm thinking the original inclusion was perhaps a mistake and we were
not licensed for that (even though our serial number worked for it).
True?
If so is there an optional license from Epicor to include the SolidModel
viewing? Or has anyone bought directly from Oracle? $2,100 a seat for 3D
is pretty pricey! Any suggestions for another "universal" CAD viewer?
The issue has come up where SolidWorks 2008 step files are not
compatible with SolidModel Pro 17.1. We must first open the file with
KeyCreator (our primary CAD system) and when saved they can then be
opened by AutoVue. Even the free SolidWorks eDrawings viewer for step
files will not open the SolidWorks 2008 .STP files and besides, our
users like the AutoVue edge ruler for getting dimensions.
Any thoughts, opinions or experiences with this would be much
appreciated.
Thanks,
Todd Caughey
