[6.1] ODBC View on Customer table - Exclusive Access

After you create the view, you need the do the "GRANT SELECT ON "view
name" TO "user name"" statement in your SQL Explorer.

ProMon disconnected everyone and just to be sure stopped the DB and
set the users to as low as it would let me and restarted the DB
(reversed all this later). I could then create the view without an
error message but when I remoted into another server with Access it
could not see the external data source I had named. It may have been
the ODBC setup on that or an issue with my Citrix desktop remote
session so I will try it here in the office today and see if it
appears. Thanks for all the suggestions.

When trying to setup the ODBC.Customer_view to allow Access to ODBC to that table I am getting an error about requiring exclusive access to the schema. The instructions I have do not say anything about exclusive access. But they do note "you need to give the view an owner name or the SQL statement will error." But they do not explain what this is or how to do it. I'm not sure if the schema error I am getting is related to this owner bit.

Again, this is in Vantage 6.1 and Progress 9.1d. Any further hints on how to get this accomplished? Especially if I have to kick everyone out of Vantage do I just set the number of users to 1 and restart the DB to achieve exclusive access?

Todd,
It has been a couple of years since I did this but I think it was
necessary to shut down the App Servers and maybe even the database to
make the ODBC changes. If I remember right, it was not documented
that way but I remember having to do it after hours on a weekend.

You have to do this when no one is logged into Vantage. You can have
everything up and running, just no users in Vantage when you execute the SQL
statements. I restarted the database and ran the SQL then. No issues when
I did this and then followed the instructions as given in the instructions.

When trying to setup the ODBC.Customer_view to allow Access to ODBC to that
table I am getting an error about requiring exclusive access to the schema.
The instructions I have do not say anything about exclusive access. But they
do note "you need to give the view an owner name or the SQL statement will
error." But they do not explain what this is or how to do it. I'm not sure
if the schema error I am getting is related to this owner bit.

Again, this is in Vantage 6.1 and Progress 9.1d. Any further hints on how to
get this accomplished? Especially if I have to kick everyone out of Vantage
do I just set the number of users to 1 and restart the DB to achieve
exclusive access?
