[6.1] Test Database on USB Disk

Thanks Cliff and Chris. This will be the hot project for tomorrow and I didn't want to spend all day struggling with something impossible. Goal is to have a snapshot of month-end that we can restore over and over and play with having costs hit the G/L.

The DB can be on any drive attached to the machine. Yes, if you
use the online backup it must save to the same drive. I would say set up
a training db. Use Procopy to move it to the new USB drive. That will do
all of your editing for you and set it up in PET. Then use a Prorest to
pull your full db in replacing the training db on the USB . Might be a
little convoluted but your editing will be minimal, The db path in PET.

I need to setup a test database for testing some G/L settings. It's
been a long time since we had a sandbox to play in. Since then we have
become disk space constrained on the server. I have added a 250GB USB
drive and would like to put the test database there. But I have this
nagging feeling I heard somewhere that backing up or restoring to a
drive other than where the original DB is has issues. Is this true? If
not and I can proceed are there any gotchas involved or handy tips? Our
regular DB is in the usual MFGSYS61 folder tree. I was thinking to make
a new folder for the test DB and then change new versions the related
.mfg and .ini files as needed to point there.

Thanks,

When restoring a backup into a location different from the source:

Start\Programs\your-progress\proenv
prompt
cd your-db-directory
prostrct repair mfgsys
exit
