8.0 drive letter / path change

Agreed, I never understood (nor really questioned) why they chose to map
in earlier versions.

Using the UNC, you are less likely to have a user do something that
could be destructive. I don't know how many times I have seen a user
delete something in a mapped drive. If they can't see it, they can do
anything to it. This is not to say that if they know their stuff they
can't do something, but the average user won't go somewhere when they
don't have a drive letter to look at.

Mr. Bruce: The short answer is Yes.

I think these days the more accepted standard is to use a UNC rather
than a drive letter ( \\yourservername\epicor ).

It's less prone to drive mapping changes. i.e. when installing the
Progress Client (used to setup ODBC on client stations) I used the
UNC \\yourservername\epicor\oe101b as the install directory.

In my opinion there is very little need for an actual drive mapping.
However I would be interested to hear what other think about this.

Great Question.

In 6.1 and below changing the networked drive letter was typically a recipe
for disaster. Is this true for 8.0 or 8.03?
