8.03.405A Reports/Queries/Printing Slowness

They all are set up as "READ UNCOMMITED".

Thanks,

That could be a problem, how are the ODBC settings setup on the local
machine? They need to be all setup to be "READ UNCOMMITTED"

If not, it is possible that a record lock can occur, which can lead to
that
problem.

I'm starting to have an issue with our Vantage system. We are running
405A. For no apparent reason our printing seems to stop working... our
queries seem to "hang"... and any reports we try to run will also
"hang". I'm kind of at a loss as to why this will suddenly happen. My
only resolution is to kick everyone out of Vantage and shut down/restart
the system. Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing
this? I asked the obvious users if they were running any "big" reports
or trying to create any queries that could be a load on the system. The
answer was no. Any direction here would be greatly appreciated. I'm
thinking that it might be time for me to perform another "Dump and
Load". Yipppeeee!!!!!!!

Kunal,

Next time this happens to you try to remember to look at how much RAM
your system is currently using. I've found that our system is trying to
use more RAM then possible. I just don't understand why or how it is
doing this.

Thanks,

That could be a problem, how are the ODBC settings setup on the local
machine? They need to be all setup to be "READ UNCOMMITTED"

If not, it is possible that a record lock can occur, which can lead to that
problem.

We're Progress. I've tried just stopping the Process and TaskAgent
appservers but that didn't help.

Are you an SQL customer? I would quesiton whether you are having record
locks or not which can cause a backup similar to what you describe.

If it is only printing, then that can be re-started by stopping and
starting
the processappserver and taskappserver, you shouldn't need to kill the
main
appserver to restart that.
