To all, thank you for the feedback. Now I have a lot of things to try.
I called tech support and they sent the Progress Db tuning guide. They advised me to go through it first. I'm printing it out now.
I have often wondered about mixing 100MB and 1000MB clients. I think most everything is set to auto negotiate. I'll play with forcing them to 1000MB. I have a few running at 100MB that do indeed have 1000MB NICs in them. May need to pull some new wire, easy enough.
After I try to tune the server I want to do a dump and load, sounds like it will help a lot.
