You don't need to map anything.
The installer doesn't handle putting it on a separate server. So you have to
do that manually. The only thing the installer will do is extract the .mdf
file to the location you choose, you can then manually move it to the other
machine and then attach it to that installation of SQL.
Also, when creating or updating the DSN, make sure you are using the correct
ODBC sources, you'll need to use the odbcad32.exe located in
C:\Windows\SysWOW64 on a 64-bit installation of Windows Server, not the
default data sources in admin tools.

Subject: [Vantage] Re: 9.04 Install with SQL on Separate Server
This is actually prior to having the database installed - I'm doing a fresh
install of 9.0 Server on a new box.
I'm trying to answer the "SQL databases installed to" question on the Epicor
9 Server (SQL)Setup. The default is "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL
Server\MSSQL\Data\". The "Browse" only lets you look at the server drives,
but I want it to point to a share on another server. UNC mapping gives me
an Error 1314, specified path is unavailable even though it is out there and
the database is online.
I'm assuming we could just map a drive to the other server with SQL on it.
Correct?

Basically Vantage talk to the Progress Schema Holder database, and the
Schema Holder database talks to MSSQL via a DSN. So basically you just need
to create a DSN on your Vantage server with the right name (in Vantage 8.03
its 'MFGSYS803', 'MFGTEST803', etc.) and point it to the right place.
The database server connection should authenticate via Windows
authentication, so whatever user you're running E9 as (typically
'Progress@...') will need to have dbo rights on the corresponding databases.
I'm not sure if the installer will support this, or if you'll have to fix it
after the fact. I've been able to easily move the databases in Vantage in
my test environment from the test server to another server and just change
the DSN, so I know it works fine.
