9.05.601B ---MRP and Safety-Stock ( or Min Inv Qty) problem- unn

Good Day Julie:

I got the resonse below from another group - I have not tested
yet.
I do not know if it will work for our complex mix.

I Think Lance was concentrating on my question of unneeded
Suggestions.
I think you are talking more about having it get the dates
correct? Which would be nice also.

Len

Hi Len,

We spent months and finally it came down to a combination of.

1. We went with Minimum on hand instead of Safety stock - I was told a
long time ago dipping below safety stock overrides a number of the
variables.
2. Day of supply - consolidates x number of day into one line/release,
we vary it based on the product types 3. Reschedule out time delta - 5
days 4. Reschedule in time delta. - 1 day

So far the complaints went from all day every day to about a dozen
random ones throughout the month.
We actually run a full regen MRP on a nightly basis.

Lance Deutscher

I am very disheartened to hear that they have not corrected this yet in
9.xx. We are on 6.1 and went through what you are doing - trying every
combination possible
to get those suggestions to be meaningful. Believe me, we understand
your pain - I don't think it's a case of people not caring or not using
MRP, it's just hopeless (IMHO)
to try and get suggestions for buyers to work. We tried several times,
thinking maybe we understood the system better, but ultimately gave up.
Our buyers now use the Time Phase report, as it gives an accurate
picture of the requirements, open PO's, and really is a useful report.
Unfortunately, it is also ALOT of information to go through, and
everything shows up, including lots of parts that require no action, but
we still find it to be the best tool. I really would like to have the
developers come and sit down with the buyers and sift through those
suggestions for a few days and see what they go through - and to top it
off - the vendors would think you were absolutely nuts if you tried to
make the changes that are suggested. After going through the suggestions
and figuring out what the net changes really are, they hardly have time
to react to what needs to be done, before they can start all over again
the next day.

Maybe there are other tools for you to use in 9.05, but it doesn't sound
like the logic has changed and it is extremely frustrating. Good luck!

Good Day:

RE: 9.05.601B ---MRP and Safety-Stock ( or Min Inv Qty) problem-
unneeded Suggestions created.

We continue to get unneeded suggestions when we run MRP.

Usual case is QOH = 2 Demand = 1 Safety-Stock ( or Min-Inv-Qty)
= 2 and there is an open PO for some.

There are other cases, but it is the easiest to explain.

MRP suggests a NEW PO be issued which would result in excess stock
snce the other open PO more then covers the need and SS.

This happens because we have the PO QTY and Date locked on the
PO-Releases. If they are not locked, then MRP plans a PO date move which
can't be done because it goes below SS before today ( Demand has a date
of last week).

Have you seen this problem. Any solution? I have tried a great many
things but you either get the the move or the New suggestion.
I have played with: MRP-Fence, Minimum move in and out,
Min-Inv-Qty instead of Safety-Stock, Lot sizes, rec-Time, Days-Supply,
locking the PO dates and qty, in many combinations.

I also opened several calls with the helpline and was told:
1. It is working as designed they expect us to move everything until
there are no date conflicts.
2. There is no way to run MRP to ignore moves - just tell me what needs
more supply.
3. They quote 35 hours just to study the possibility of changing MRP.
4. It is also date relation sensative - that is, it acts differently if
the demand is before or after the lead time.

Do you run MRP? I sometimes get the feeling others don't care
because they do not use MRP.
I cannot understand why this would not be considered a big problem
for ost users, since Buyers need to look at and delete dozens of these
every day - often many of the same ones as yesterday.

Min Avail & Safety are treated as an immediate requirement due today by every system I've used (and that is why people refer to MRP as a 'push' system that needlessly builds inventory).
Â
Focus on filtering your messages (and how you do that depends on your business & processes).
Â
Better yet: Create kanban replenishment processes that aren't MRP dependent (or for that matter, heavily Vantage dependent).
