9.05.702 - Changing a Manufactured Part from Average Costing to

I would have to wonder what does this do to your cost of inventory .     On another question…  unrelated to your question (sorta) , but just putting it out there.  Do you have to file change of accounting method with IRS?

I get the message:

You have changed the following fields:

Cost Method

Do you want to refresh the part plant records with the changes?  Yes or No

My question to the group –

Does anyone know what this actually does?

What fields?

What if I say No, how can I tell? What are the consequences?

Just say yes...

Seriously, though.

Epicor stores the cost method in two tables (Part and PartPlant). It only uses the PartPlant one though. Unless you want different plants using different cost methods (very unlikely), you probably want to keep the part and partplant records in sync.

Great Response. Thank You.

I have a BAQ available on the Part File to search and display all parts showing the costing method so I can monitor changes.

We only have one plant so I added the PartPlant table and the costing method field from it also.

I can now monitor if they said Yes or No to updating the PartPlant records while converting parts.

Thanks again.

Patrick,

If you go from Average to Standard costing you are going to change a lot of your processes as well.  So like Tom said earlier…be careful what you want.  The system lets you change the costing method if there are no quantities on hand.  But it defaults to the one associated to the company config file.
