9.05 installation - Not enough disk space

Thanks for the suggestions, I ended up scrolling through the windows folder and removed all the files from the $ms hidden folder with all the OS Updates uninstall information, then the SoftwareDistribution folder which holds windows update files, and then another folder as well. This ended up to get me a little over 2GB of space on the drive so I could do the install. It left me with about 400MB free during the installation.

To answer the other idea..

I hadn't thought about changing the temp file locations, I will definitely keep that in mind for future possible solutions, and it's an exe not an msi to install Epicor, OpenEdge installed fine, But the main app not so well. It actually checks the drive before the install actually starts, which is where the error comes up.

The page file of the server was already on the secondary drives, except for 12mb that was allocated to the C, which allows for startup and crash errors to be recorded. Without a page file on the C drive you won't get any crash reports usually.

And there were no funky directories anywhere in temp files, but this time when it was installing, it needed somewhere about 2.8 GB for the temp files.

Thanks for the help.
I searched through the emails I have, and the group and I can't seem to find
the solution in any of those.

Does anyone know of the work around to where Epicor puts the temp files
during the installation of 9.05, progress, 32-bit? Does anyone know how much
space it actually needs? Can the temp file location be changed at all?

I keep running into the problem because the server only has 1.25GB of free
space on the C: Drive, 1.85GB on the E, and the F has 76GB, which would be
where I would want to put the temp files, same place I would install it too.

I haven't been able to get a response from anyone else, and I don't think
the server owner wants to rip out anything installed on their server right
now.

TIA for anything you know.
A couple suggestions... I've had to do this with other software, don't
know if it will work for Epicor.

1. Change the TEMP & TMP variables to another drive (Control Panel,
System, Advanced, Environment Variables).

2. It is technically possible to edit the MSI files yourself to
change a default file location. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/255905.
This won't work for custom installers (non MSI files) and I think the
Progress installer is a custom one :-( but might be worth a look.

Brian.

Does the installation program never start because it determines there isn't enough space, or does it stop mid session because it runs out of space?

If it's the later, you could just try to install it (knowing it will fail) and just monitor the free space on drives C & D.

But I think your real question is how to direct the installation to use certain drives for the temp files.

If the installation starts, try to find where the temp files are being stored. If they happen to match an environment variable, then change that variable to point to the big drive. You can see the values of the environment variables by typing SET at a command prompt on the server. Use the SET command during installation to see if a temporary temp location is being created. You may have to restart the server after changing the variables.

I find it surprising the Epicor can't answer this.

Another option is to move your page file to the F: drive. Once you make the settings change, you'll have to restart the server, but it will free up however much page file space is currently being used on C:.

Ned,
I suffered through this during one of the upgrades because the
releaseclient.zip file was exploded on the C: drive and if the install failed,
they were left behind and only caused failure trying to restart the install. I
looked through my notes but can't find exactly where they were stored but I seem
to recall them being under C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Epicor. Under
that, each install would also create a funky subdirectory (i.e. AEF83F....) and
all of the files would be under that. There seemed to be no way to redirect the
unpacking to a different partition. Just keep C:\ with 1 - 1.5GB minimum.

HTH,
-Karl
