Recently, we struggled with Cost-Set / Roll-up.
Parts would not roll-up if any part in the BOM was inactive.
The inactive part could be buried in a sub-assembly and hard to find.
The part will show costs in the 'BOM Cost' report but not roll-up.
This request is to report which parts are inactive and are stopping the roll-up.

Babette,
I think this would be a better suggestion if you are going to have other
users call in. This one is more likely to be implemented and to me makes
the most sense...

SUGGESTION: Cost Set Entry should have a log if all parts cannot be rolled
up. Inactive parts, etc could be displayed as reasons why the part was not
rolled up.
PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
Customer has a number of parts that won't roll up. Rev date is effective,
etc, but the parts will not roll up in Cost Set Entry.
RESPONSE FROM DEVELOPMENT:
Vantage 5.00 (Cairo) changed Cost Set Entry to roll up only parts that did
not contain any inactive components (materials or assemblies). If a BOM has
an inactive component anywhere, Cost Set Entry rollup rejects it, and the
part's costs in the cost set stay the same as they were prior to the rollup.
But the user gets no feedback about why the part's cost did not roll up, and
there is no easy way to tell, if the part has a lot of materials,
assemblies, and subassemblies, that a component somewhere is inactive.
SAMPLE STEPS TO DUPLICATE:
1) In the Part Master, create a purchased part. Note the part number.
2) Create a manufactured part with a BOM that uses the part from step 1 as
a material. For simplicity, don't give it any operations, assemblies or
other materials. Approve the BOM.
3) In Inventory Cost Adjustment, give the part from step 1 material unit
cost only. Note the cost.
4) In Advanced Bill of Materials => General Operations => Cost Set Entry,
create a group for today's date.
5) Find the part from step 2, and edit its material unit cost directly to
something other than the cost from step 3.
6) Roll up costs, specifying the part from step 2 and today's date.
7) Find the part, and note its material cost.
The material cost correctly matches the cost from step 2.
8) In the Part Master, make the part from step 1 inactive.
9) Repeat steps 5-7.
The material cost has not changed since before rolling up costs, but Cost
Set Entry did not provide any message that about the part's not rolling up.
The Cost Set Rollup already maintains a list of inactive components for each
part, but does not show it to the user. Instead, it should write this list
to a log, along with the part number. At the end of processing, if anything
was logged, the program should provide a pop-up error message that not all
parts could be rolled up. Cost Set Entry should have a menu item to let the
reader view the error log.
