Adding Bin to Job Traveler 8.03

Mitchell, your point makes sense as it applies to your specific business scenario. Vantage is far from taking a "green"/"eco-friendly approach when it comes to processes. I cringe at all the paper we waste daily. Our inventory roles are very distinct from our production floor functions. We routinely have parts that are/go bad during production or something breaks in the manufacturing step. Using the Quality module via labor entry/MES we non-conform,DMR or scrap the material or operation and rework it as necessary. The production person requests the inventory clerk to issue additional mtl. You can always issue more mtl or less mtl on job. In our case the mtl could almost come from another bin (in our scenario, we maintain one Bin# per Lot#/Heat).
Thanks for sharing your scenario-gives me options to think about.

My comments relate to 6.1 since we are not going to 8.x any time soon.

We had a consultant modify the traveler to add the bin. It didn't cost much
and the time and paper saved more than offset the cost. We only pull about
6 items for an assembly so the pick list was a waste of time. We did the
mod in 5.0 and just carried the functionality forward. Epicor custom
programming did this for us at first. When we went from 5.x to 6.x I had a
consultant do it for a third of the price from Epicor. The idea that you
would list the material on the traveler and not be able to list the bin
seems very short sighted. What if you used the pick list and production
found a bad part? You can't just go get a new one can you? I realize we
are a small manufacturer and my comments don't necessarily apply to a larger
scale operation.

Sincerely,

Norman, The expectation of the production managers are reasonable enough,
however Vantage functionality isn't that streamlined or a
one-stop/form/ report solution when it comes to this. Their intended process
is to use the Job Pick List report (after the job is engineered & released)
is for the inventory clerks to pull/pick mtls and issue to the job after
which the production folks do the work per the Job Traveler. I'm not sure
how your functional roles on your production floor fit into this model. It
may take some time redoing the Job Traveler report to try to combine the
functionality that the Job Pick List report already provides into the Job
traveler report but my humble opinion is that you'd be re-working what
Vantage already provides in 2 reports. You would need to build new table
relationships to bring in PartBin table data as a sub-report perhaps for
each Job Mtl/Opr Seq) into the Job Traveler.
Thanks

RSN,

I have been asked by our production people if it is possible to
add the Bin to the traveler, I believe they want one piece of
paper to hand out so the workers know what to do and where to get
the parts. Are you saying it's not going to be possible to add
the Bin to the traveler?

Norman

Does anyone know how to go about adding the BinNum to the Job
Traveler? The traveler already shows the warehouse but not the
bin. I have tried adding the field in report data def. and doing
it through an ODBC sub-report, both with no avail. I think the
field I'm looking for is PartBin.BinNum.

Norman, Maybe I'm not clear as to what you are looking to accomplish when you say you want to add the PartBin information to the Job Traveler.
Are you sure you want to do this on the Job Traveler instead of using the Job Pick List report. Or are you looking to audit the list of materials issued to the Job?
The relationship of PartBin and JobMtl tables is to be considered carefully before you add the PartBin.Bin field to the traveler. The traveler keys off the JobMtl, JobOprn tables and the Job Pick List report keys off the PartBin table.
