Adding Material to Scrapped Job

Ben,

When you add a line to the existing job for the replacement
material, set the material cost on the job screen to zero. This
defaults from the material cost from the part master and is where
the job estimate is generated from. Setting the replacement (or
original) material to zero will avoid "double dipping" from an
estimating viewpoint. The new material line will generate a new
demand and the actual job costs will be updated when the material
issued or received to the job.

If we have run a job, and all the parts are bad, how can I add more
material to the job without affecting the estimated material cost.

EX:

Ran 10 pcs and scrapped them all. I want to inform Purchasing to buy
more material for the job so I add a new line for material on the
original job.

This doubles the estimated cost, and therefore doesn't show a big cost
variance at the end.

How does everyone else handle this?

Thanks!

If I remember correctly it won't affect the Estimated, it
will affect the Actuals. You can always issue more material

Hopefully this is a rare occurrence, so although this is not an
integrated solution it should deal with the problem.

1. You would have to create a manual material requisition for
purchasing. (Email?)
2. Re-release the job to the plant, making note of changes to
actual quantity to re-produce and that this is a rework job.

a. In your example it is all items but this may not always be the
case and you do not want to change the quantity of the job in vantage as
you stated this would also affect the estimated costs.

3. When the job is completed the second time, over-process the job
in vantage.

You have taken care of purchasing, got the material re-produced, and
processed a job that only estimated 10 pieces but shows an actual usage
of 20 pieces. You also have a method of tracking rework later for future
QC initiatives. (List all jobs where completed is greater than
requested) The deficiency is the manual interaction required but
eliminating that would probably best addressed by improving on processes
that led to the defective parts in the first place.

Hope this works.

Frank

Subject: RE: [Vantage] Adding Material to Scrapped Job

That's right!

We usually just let purchasing know that they need to buy
more material when we scrap parts.

I think you can add a new material line to the existing job
so that when you generate purchasing suggestions it should
come up, but that is a guess on my part.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

How does purchasing get notified to buy more material?

If I don't add more material to the BOM, my Purchase
Manager will never
know to buy more...

TIA,
Ben

If I remember correctly it won't affect the Estimated, it
will affect the Actuals. You can always issue more
material
than was previously stated.

If we have run a job, and all the parts are bad, how can
I
add more
material to the job without affecting the estimated
material cost.

EX:

Ran 10 pcs and scrapped them all. I want to inform
Purchasing to buy
more material for the job so I add a new line for
material
on the
original job.

This doubles the estimated cost, and therefore doesn't
show a big cost
variance at the end.

How does everyone else handle this?

Thanks!
