Adding Table To Report Definition and Crystal

Dear Paul:

It sounds like you are still missing a few steps of this process.

There is an answerbook on the MyEpicWeb page on the Epicor website.
AnswerBook # 4778MPS, "CR Modifying a Crystal Report form in V8.xx"

After you modify your data definition and report style, then you need
to run that Report Style by Print-Pre-viewing a form in Vantage in
order to generate a new .xml file based upon your newly-modified Data
Definition.

Then you need to open up your Crystal Report Packing Slip form and
complete several steps in order to tell Crystal to use the new .xml
file.

It is important that the steps in the Answerbook be completely
followed in proper order. If you follow this Answerbook, you
shouldn't have any trouble adding anything you want to your Packing
Slip.

The ShipTo table appears in the new DataSet. I have selected the Report Dataset headers in existing/new and clicked update.

It doesn't add the new table (ShipTo) to the new Report Dataset.

I CAN add it manually in Database expert and then add a link between Customer and ShipTo where there is a link between CustNum, Customer and ShipToID.

I then add i.e. Address 1,2 and 3 from the ShipTo table to my report, save, and preview my new Quote (print preview in Vantage), and it shows a blank form with no data (only borders etc).

If I remove the fields from Address 1,2 and 3 and then save and print preview the report, all data is there (with the exception of the ShipTo data fields (which I removed).

Does anyone know where I am going wrong??

Any help greatly appreciated.

I have encountered the 'blank' report condition when adding tables.
If I Linked to the new table from existing report data it would
happen. If I linked from the new table to the exisiting data it works.

try reversing the direction of the links to the new table.

Chris,

You're making this more difficult then it needs to be. :-)

Finally the Epicorian developers thought ahead slightly to proactively
support things like this....it's called Linked Tables.

Quickly:

Start from scratch; copy the default QuotForm RDD (report data def) to
something else.

Open your newly copied RDD and click on the Report Table tab.

Click on the List tab.

Click on the QuoteHed Table.

Now click on the Linked Tables tab. (options of linked tables change
for each table you click on in the RDD).

Look on the left side of the Linked tables tab; you should see "Lookup
Available" and see 'ShipToNum' as a choice. 'ShipToNum' is your ShipTo
table. Why they didn't call it that, I'm not sure....

Bring it over to the right side. Now click on the Description Fields
tab.

In the dropdown box, select ShipToNum.

Bring over the fields you want.

Save.

Now when you run this RDD, in the exported XML, these fields will be
added to the "QuoteHed" table's list of fields prefixed by
"ShipToNum_{yourfield}.

80% of the time these Linked Tables are available. It is much easier
than setting up a relationship and adding a table. And then having to
duplicate in Crystal.

Good luck.

Chris:

Vic's suggestion of using the Epicor-provdided linked tables is the
best way to go.

However, for future reference, I don't see below where you remembered
to establish the relationship between customer.company =
shipto.company.

The fieldname Company exists in every Vantage table; and for every
relationship you add, ParentTable.Company = ChildTable.Company needs
to exist.

And one further note - even though you won't be using the 'key'
fields on the report, include them in the data being sent to the
report so you can link the tables in the dabase expert in Crystal.

This post helped me a bunch, had no idea about the "linked tables"

Although it didn't quite give me what I want (I want the terms
description, it gave me a terms code) at least its something.

Now link from the terms code on the QuoteHed table to the Terms table to
be able to get the terms description.

This post helped me a bunch, had no idea about the "linked tables"

Although it didn't quite give me what I want (I want the terms
description, it gave me a terms code) at least its something.

thank you

[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
I'm actually working with the packing slip form, I tried this
(linking terms) yesterday and get no data once I try to get data out
of the terms.description field.

I don't get how linking works in these reports, in any "regular"
crystal report it would easily work how you describe and how I did
it, linking shipdtl.company to terms.company and
shipdtl.ordernum_termscode to terms.code, but once done in these
crystal repots it returns no data. So strange, why isn't this a no
brainer?
