The following is from Carlos (Kenny) Rodriguez with Epicor:

Good afternoon,

I hope you don't mind the mass e-mail, lately I've received some questions about our advanced programming course so with this e-mail I am hoping we can generate more interest and get more people involved so we can hold the class at a location where it works best for everybody (I'm based in Minneapolis but am willing to travel to any location, or teach the class in our Epicor office at Minneapolis).

This is the general information for the class:

The concepts covered in the course are:

Day 1:
Epicor framework basics (architecture, what is the rowmod used for, base methods, etc)

Progress basics (for each, find, if/else, repeat, locks, etc).

BPM 4GL/ABL basics (this would cover the basic things you will use BPM for, like making fields mandatory, cross referencing data, populating data, etc).

BPM 4GL/ABL advanced topics (this would cover using the Forward to Procedure functionality to call external progress programs, running programs persistently to re-use existing functionality - similar to what Service Connect does but in BPM).

Day 2:

Customization basics (what is a view, row rule, extended property, like properties, etc).

Invoking searches from other objects.

Invoking methods from other objects.

EpiCombo usage (how to populate it dynamically with data).

Embedding grids linked to UD tables (with CRUD capabilities).

The original course was taught on Vantage 8 but a couple of people followed along in Epicor 9 without any problems, so the version should not be an issue. Ideally we would all agree on a specific version but I understand this might be difficult. It is required that each person brings their own preconfigured environment to the class.

The cost of the course is $1,500 USD per person and we require at least 7 attendees in order to schedule it.

Feel free to forward this information to whoever might be interested in attending. Let me know if you have any questions or comments.

Thanks!

I would be interested in this class depending on where and when it is held.

Fisher Barton is on version 8.03.409c SQL.

I work in the Fisher Barton location in Watertown, WI.

I would also need to discuss with Kenny if this will be too advanced for myself (not sure if a basic programming course was ever offered).

Hi Karen,

It's great to hear that you're interested. I'm sure that Kenny can provide more information, and perhaps some of the attendees from last year's course can provide some input, too.

I too, am concerned about location (I'm in the Seattle area) as well as cost. One option that I proposed to Cathey Fullerton (CFullerton@...) was to schedule the class over the weekend at Perspectives. They already offer classes on Saturday and Sunday and the attendees are already there (no additional transportation and lodging issues) - or at least, some may decide to attend Perspectives with the offering of this class, especially if they previously weren't planning to go - or vice versa to take the class. To me, it's a win-win for Epicor. Kenny's class isn't part of the standard Epicor education offering, but one would hope that they'd make an exception - especially if enough customers want it.

I'm definitely interested but I am in Chicago and cannot go to
Perspectives. I'll just watch out for more emails and give my two cents
at that point.

I am interested in taking this class - I am going to Perspectives this year or I wouldn't mind taking in Minneapolis.
