We have a part that is going to be welded using a robotic welder, and it requires our laser to cut the part. If the laser is unavailable or down, we will need to weld it manually. The manual weld will have a different BOM compared to the robotic weld.
Will the Alternate Part option work in this scenario and how?
If you want the part that goes into inventory to be different, then an alternate part would work.
If only the method of manufacturing is different, i would use a different rev ID.
You can use an alternate method for this. If the laser is going to be down for a while, you could set the default alternate method in the Sites > Planning and MRP will select it automatically. Any firm jobs would need to be updated manually (either delete all, then get details from your alternate - or close the job and let MRP recreate it).
Once the laser is back up, just remove the alternate method from the Sites > Planning tab.
