Another Newbie question on customization

Vantage gurus,

I have another "newbie" question. I need to add a combobox control to the "Job Entry" screen in our Vantage 8.03 and call it "Job Type" and populate it with a list of selectable items and data bind that selection to the JobHead.Character1 field in the database when the job is created. I also wanto to make it a "mandatory" field that has to have something selected in it before a new job can be created. Can this be done without any coding? Thanks in advance..

Add an Ultra combo box
Link this to your character 1 field

Then on the right hand side you'll have a "New Combo List Item". Start adding these then apply.

Alternatively you could link to another Table (by using a Retriever)

Sorry, my bad... I was referring to the second part of your question about the mandatory portion, the other reply should steer you in the direction to add a combobox..

Specifically, when you have the customization screen open under tools menu pick tool box and add ultracombo

but how exactly do I "enable" this new UltraCombo control I added to be seen
when I exit out of developer mode? I can see it and it works as long as I
am "developer/customizing" but as soon as I go back out, everything reverts
back to the way it was before I started. I did not save it as a "WIP" (work

a "running" environment??? Thanks!

Rob,

You are THE man. That worked perfect..I've only got one last thing now. I
went and added the same field to the JobTracker screen so I could see this
new field when either entering OR just looking at a job. However, even
though I bound the new ultra combo control to the same field I did in the
Job Entry screen, it does not retrieve the data that I entered when I did
with Job Entry. It pulls up fine in Job Entry, but JobTracker it does not.
Any ideas? Could it be because I did not "populate" the ultracombo in the
JobTracker with a list of items but I did populate it in Job Entry? That's
really the only difference I can think of. Thanks!

Mike.

Subject: [Vantage] Another Newbie question on customization

Vantage gurus,

I have another "newbie" question. I need to add a combobox control to the
"Job Entry" screen in our Vantage 8.03 and call it "Job Type" and populate
it with a list of selectable items and data bind that selection to the
JobHead.Character1 field in the database when the job is created. I also
wanto to make it a "mandatory" field that has to have something selected in
it before a new job can be created. Can this be done without any coding?
Thanks in advance..

In the tracker I would advise to just use a text box to display information. Since you can't update from a tracker there isn't much point to using the combo. That being said, assuming in Job Entry you tied the ultracombo to the JobHead.Character01 (and some advice here, unless this is some sort of memo or string exceeding 50 characters, I strongly advise using the ShortChar fields before character fields), and in Job Tracker you tied the text box to the same table/column it should display.

Thanks!

Perfect Rob, thanks..That makes sense. I will make the change. I did end
up getting it to work. I just had to "populate" the combobox on the tracker
screen with the items as I guess it "has" to match something in a list in
order to display. But I like your idea much better. Thanks again, my
friend!

Thanks Rob....Care to point me in the right direction? The only "wizards" I
see are when I'm in the developer/customization mode. And none of those
"wizards" appear to take me through the process of adding a new field to a
form. Am I missing something???

You should be able to do this with a pre-processing BPM using some of the
standard 'wizard' choices...

Rob, where are the standard 'wizard' choices?  I am in EPICOR 9.05.701 and I'm trying to make a field mandatory on the quote entry screen.
