Anti Virus

Has anybody used Command Anti Virus software?
Does anybody have trouble with load time using an Anti Virus software. Our load time for Norton Anti Virus 1 1/2 minutes on Vantage 5.0

We used to have slow Vantage startup until I excluded the entire mapped
drive (V: in our case) for the Epicor folder structure on the server. On
each client running Norton AV (Corp. ed) I made this change and starting
Vantage (v4.0) is now a few seconds.

Install the Norton Anti Virus Server on you Vantage server as and set it so
as not to scan the directories Vantage is in. Don't add any clients under
this server. Also, set it so as not to scan any files with an extension of
"r". Even our lowly AMD K62-300 machines load in well under 30 seconds
using Norton Anti Virus Corporate.

Rich:

Our load time on 5.1 with Norton Anti-Virus is also about 90 seconds.
However, the benefit (to me) is that if no virus reaches my system or
workstations, I don't have to spend three hours to two days fixing the
damage. So the 90 second load time is a good trade. My data collection
stations are on 24/7, so shop guys aren't waiting for Vantage to load.
Office folks can nearly always find something useful to do for 90 seconds at
the beginning of the day. Also, having been a Vantage user for 7 years now,
I can tell you that load time has always been an issue, even before
anti-virus, so I wouldn't be placing ALL of the blame on NAV.

I'm running Norton Corp. Edition on my XP pro box and Vantage loads in about
6 seconds to the login screen and to the main screen in about 5 seconds.

Is it a bad idea to have an antivirus client on our Vantage server?
I want to put Symantec Antivirus on the server but I'm unsure it will
effect Vantage or it's performance.

Thanks,

Jasper
It's OK but exlcude the EPICxx (or whatever) folder from realtime scanning. Same as your would do for a client (exclude the mapped drive that point to same place). Otherwise the database gets scanned when users open Vantage and it can take awhile to get a login screen.

An easy one I might be able to answer. The Norton server is installed on
our Vantage server. We use the corporate edition with a 25 user client
license. We do not scan the network drives or the vantage folders. I had
tech support at Norton walk me through this when we set it up. The clients
are updated automatically during the day and on boot in the morning.

It is a real performance hit if you do it wrong. I'll leave a more detailed
explanation to the experts on the list.

I run Norton Corporate AV on my Vantage server in this manner. The
Real-time protection is turned off. I run a nightly scan. Yes, It greatly
affects Vantage in my experience.
