Anyone out there today (Sunday)? Progress Explorer Tool Questi

You need to download the Progress Fix from Epicors Web site. Run that and all will be well. I think it is called REGPROGDLL.exe and can be found in the PRogress download directory
Thanks

Tool Question for ya...

I'm upgrading from 5.0 to 5.1 today and I get an error when I try to fire up
Progress Explorer Tool (Snap in failed to initialize).

But I am able to start the database with the old Procontrol.

I am unable to fire up Vantage at this point. If anyone is out there and is
online and knows what I've done wrong and feels like responding, I'll check
back after I go get some lunch.

Oh, and does anyone know the best place to look up error codes that pop up
when things don't go right.

Thanks tons in advance...

RG

Hi Rick,
I feel your pain...trying to upgrade w/o support available. I'm finishing up 5.2-->6.0 today (user clients, CR tweaks, fix nightly backup, etc...). What is the error you are getting starting Explorer Tool? I recall some flakey stuff in that from when I went from 4.0 to 5.2 so I could maybe find it in old notes. Doesn't Explorer Tool use MMC? Perhaps there is a newer version available fro Microsoft? What version of Internet Explorer is on the server? I've seen where upgrading to 6.0 installs a bunch of newer windows components and perhaps MMC stuff.

The error is basically "Snap in failed to initialize"

When I went to Microsoft Knowledgebase, one of the 832 hits stated to go
into MMC/Progress Explorer Tool and remove the snap in. Of course there is
no sanap in to remove, whatever a sanp in is.

Just looked at my 5.1 notes and found a reference to a MMC problem. Epicor site suggested downloading and running: RegProgDLL.exe from their site. I wonder if this does as described below in Calvin's suggestion? But running RegProdDLL fixed my problam way back when.

Gauranteed you won't find them all....tomorrow morning will be very busy for both of us as users validate Murphy's Law. It's going to be a long day.

Just looked at my 5.1 notes and found a reference to a MMC problem. Epicor
site suggested downloading and running: RegProgDLL.exe from their site. I
wonder if this does as described below in Calvin's suggestion? But running
RegProdDLL fixed my problam way back when.

Title: "Snap-in Fail to initializeName: Progress Explorer 9.1DCLSID:
{48D545A7-E454-11D5-9E56-00C04F68C4F1}"
Created: 4-Feb-2004 Last Modified: 4-Feb-2004
Status: Unverified

Known to occur in: Progress 9.1D

Symptom(s):
Error starting Progress Explorer
Snap-in Fail to initialize
Name: Progress Explorer 9.1D
CLSID: {48D545A7-E454-11D5-9E56-00C04F68C4F1}

Uninstalling and reinstalling to different location does not work

Cause(s):
The value of the
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\48D545A7-E454-11D5-9E56-00C04F68C4F1\InProcServer32\
Default string is point to the wrong directory location for the msjava.dll.
Use the CLSID in the error to find the registry key with the problem.

Fix:
Progress installs a copy of the msjava.dll to c:\winnt\system32
(%systemroot%\system32). If the default value is pointing to c:\winnt,
change the registry entry to point to c:\winnt\system32.

RG
