Append details, mtl vs assy

That's an interesting idea. I'll have to try that. Thanks for the suggestion.
Doe anyone know how to control whether part get brought into a job with append details as an assembly or a material? I know that I can check the boxes in the append details screen, but it should be something that you can control with part entry somewhere.

Its controlled in the MOM

Appending details for assemblies that get pulled up to the next level from being a part of a phantom bom is not adding the assemblies. Instead the system is adding them as materials. So my weldments that go into sub assemblies that are phantom are being brought into the job are being brought in as materials. The MOM's are set up correctly and it works with get details, but it doesn't work with append details.
I think that we've decided that we are just going to avoid append details at all costs. There are a lot of bugs when that happens. 1. phantom bom quantities don't multiply like they should. 2. assemblies that go into phantom boms get brought in as materials instead of assemblies. 3. Append details only goes one level down and you have to manually get details for each assembly that it brings it.

Between this and lack of AMM functionality, I'm starting to get pretty pissed about the workarounds we have to use for basic functionality of this software.
Append details isn't intended to mimic 'get details' capability. If you want to blow thru phantoms or generate non zero assemblies, an easy out is to generate a temp job (where details will explode out as you want) & append your existing job from the temp job details.
