AR Cancellation Invoice, Object Reference not set..., and an Epicor Idea

KB0126649 explains the problem and solution very well, I think.

Well that’s great, but why is the error still “Object reference not set to an instance of an object”???

I considered complaining to support, but I know where that would go, so I skipped the runaround and went straight to making an Idea to put the answer in the UI, not just on EpicCare. https://epicor.ideas.aha.io/ideas/KIN-I-5767

Anyway, for the sake of some current or future person that wants to know the issue…

  • We made a cancellation invoice in AR Invoice Entry
  • Avalara calculated the taxes to be refunded for it
  • But the original invoice had no taxes
    • FYI, zero <> something
  • Went to preview the edit list for the AR group
  • Get error of “Object reference not set to an instance of an object”

The issue is that zero <> something - but the system won’t tell you this.

I know no one is interested in this, but I’ll update it for posterity.

I tried to actually follow the advice today and it’s bogus - it is not possible to edit a cancellation invoice. I mean I get why, but I just assumed that if this was the advice (the KB article) that maybe at least the Tax Liability would be editable. Nope.

I even tried DMT’ing the change. Hard no.

Stay tuned.

Doesn’t directly affect me tbh but I’m voting because this sort of thing (unclear errors and incorrect KB’s) frustrates me. Thanks for taking the time to report what can seem like a small detail, but can waste hours for users and those of us investigating :+1:
