ArcServe

OK....thanks to those who responded and also helped off-line.

I tried a few of your ideas and have done some more research.

I now have another question for you! :)

It appears that what has changed in the Activity Log between 5.0 and 5.1
backups (when the problems started) is on the C drive as the source
directory. I now get an 3 error messages:

W3422 Unable to save the registry key. (KEY=software, EC=DISK FULL)
W3422 Unable to save the registry key. (KEY=software, EC=DISK FULL)
W3404 Unable to open file. (FILE=C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SOFTWARE,
EC=SHARING VIOLATION)

All other messages look to be the same during the backup run.

Can anyone shed any light as to what I should be looking for? As always, I
sure appreciate all of your thoughts and ideas!

I'm hoping someone out there can help me. We don't really have a "trained
IT techie" on staff and I'm just not sure what to look for to fix this.

We went live on 5.0 at the end of September. I would check the ArcServe
activity log in the morning to make sure the backup had worked the night
before. I always said "finished".

We went to 5.1 at the end of the year. Now my backups are "incomplete" and
I'm getting sharing violations. Can anyone help me, please?????!!!!!!

Sure appreciate it!

Tricia, ARCSERV will not back up open (active) files (unless you have
purchased a special module for ARCSERV that does back up open files), like
the Vantage DB, and some log files. When it finds a file in use, you will
get a message that says something like: "Unable to open file.....". Not to
worry, the "Last Result" will say "incomplete", and the Activity log will
tell you which and how many files could not be opened and backed up.

Be sure you don't try to backup the vantage db directly. run the vantage
backup utility, and backup the backup.1, or whatever you name it.

I'm not sure about the sharing violations, are you backing up mapped/shared
drives, or just backing up logical drives?

Feel free to email/call me offline if you want.

We use Arcserve, what files is it telling you that you have a sharing
violation on?
We often have sharing violations. Most of the times its not a problem. The
file was just in use.
Thanks
