ARMigration Questions on upgrade

My customer is upgrading 10.1 to 10.2.400.7 this weekend. Question has arose.
I also ask has anyone experience with not doing this step. ( may answer some unanswered issues along the way)

concern revolves around the terminology used in the guide.

  • “…option to specify the Transaction Date that will be stamped on the upgraded data records.” – I don’t know what “stamped” and “data records” mean. We are moving tons of AR balances to 10.2 with various invoice dates and related AR transactions already against the invoices. We don’t want ANY transaction dates to change related to AR/invoicing.

  • “the default date is set to one month prior to the current system date.” – Why would we want any date stamps on current AR balances to be one month prior? Why wouldn’t the “default date” simply be the day that we are upgrading?

We simply want to make sure that all the post-upgrade AR balances/agings are identical to the pre-upgrade AR data.

Hey @bnixon!

We’ve done multiple updates/passes at the ‘test’ upgrades/conversions from 9 to 10.2.300, plus our production upgrades/conversions, and each time we have left this as the default. Our accounting folks have never said anything was amiss, and that all of our AR transactions still show the correct historical dates. We might not have had any transactions that this ‘rule’ applies to, so it might be different for your folks.

I believe that it ties in with this process, which is a menu item within 10.2 onwards.

Balance Update Process

Use the Balance Update Process to update Accounts Receivable (AR) balances when they are not set for automatic updates (i.e. the Real Time Update check box is clear in Company Configuration). Run this process before running the AR Reconciliation Report to have accurate balances on your report if you have not set automatic updates.

I have the Real Time checkbox ticked, and it doesn’t seem to slow anything down. For the record, that must be the default in an upgraded site because I don’t recall ever changing that param.

Here is what the help describes about the field:

Real Time Update

Allows real time balance updates when this check box is selected (the default). When a new movement is created, the balance tables are updated. When this check box is clear, new movements are not updated to the balance tables, which is required for an accurate AR Reconciliation Report. If this check box is clear, the Balance Update process will need to be run prior to creating an AR Reconciliation Report.

So in summary, I don’t think it’s going to massively break anything either way. Leave the date default (I did that when upgrading as well), then if you want you can run the Balance Update process on a test system and see what it actually changes if anything.
