We do NOT have the Asset Management module at present. Our Maintenance department is redefining the equipment naming convention for our maintenance scheduling and ticketing software (MaintainX). There is some concern that if, in the future, we do purchase the Asset Management module, the newly defined convention will not be compatible with the field limitations of the Asset ID (assuming that Epicor has such a field).
Is there someone out there that could tell me what the character length of the Asset ID and Asset Description are?
Equipment ID is limited to 20 characters
Equipment Description is limited to 50 characters
“Equipment” is Epicor’s term for what other Maintenance Management systems call “Assets”. There is a separate Fixed Assets module that uses the term “Asset” but that’s a separate table.
Maintenance Management is what gives you the ability to enter and track Equipment and perform preventive maintenance or work orders against those Equipments.
Asset Management is for Finance to track and calculate depreciations for fixed assets. It’s a financial module.
We don’t want to use the Maintenance Module, just ensure that if we do deploy the Asset Management module in Epicor that the naming convention is compatible.
Asset ID has the same limitation of 20 characters.
Asset Description is limited to 1000 characters, but realistically only 50-100 characters will be visible in screens and reports unless you customize them to expand the fields.
