I just answered this last month... here you go for 9.05, should work in
9.04.

Brian.

------------

Yes, but not easily. It worked better in Vantage 6, its possible but a
multi-step process in 9.05.

Create a new Document Association with extension \ (yes, just a
backslash) and view command of: explorer.exe "&1"

Attach a single document in the folder you want - it will create a link
to eg X:\Stuff\whatever.PDF

In External File Reference, find that link (it will be the highest#) and
change the filename to X:\Stuff\

Now opening that attachment will open windows explorer right at that
folder.

Thanks for the suggestion. That would work if files were all in the
folder
at one time, but unfortunately, the folder I want to attach will be
holding
all kinds of files that will be added continuously throughout the life
of
the job and may have some added after the job finishes. What would be
ideal
is if the link could be to open the folder instead of just a file.

Now that I'm thinking about this, maybe what needs to happen is that the
folder is zipped and then if a file gets added to the folder, the person
then has to re-zip the folder. I might try this.

We have a button we added to Job Entry that will open a folder on the file server based on the job number. In our case, our job numbers and folder structure are similar so it works well for us. I don't know who wrote the code originally, maybe someone from the group here - it was done before I started.

Here's the main code:

Private Sub cmdViewDataFolder_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal args As System.EventArgs)
' ** Place Event Handling Code Here **

on error resume next
Dim JobNum As String = oTrans.JobNum()
Dim OrderNum As Int32 = Left((JobNum),5)
Dim OrderDir As Int32 = LEFT((OrderNum),2)
Process.Start("explorer", "(Server Name)\Job # (project specific)\"&(OrderDir)&"000\"&(OrderNum))

End Sub

Hope this helps a little.

Tim

Tim,

This is interesting. I'll have to give this a try. Thanks for the tip!

Subject: [Vantage] Re: Attaching a file folder to a job - 9.04.507A - SQL

We have a button we added to Job Entry that will open a folder on the file
server based on the job number. In our case, our job numbers and folder
structure are similar so it works well for us. I don't know who wrote the
code originally, maybe someone from the group here - it was done before I
started.

Here's the main code:

Private Sub cmdViewDataFolder_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal args As
System.EventArgs)
' ** Place Event Handling Code Here **

on error resume next
Dim JobNum As String = oTrans.JobNum()
Dim OrderNum As Int32 = Left((JobNum),5)
Dim OrderDir As Int32 = LEFT((OrderNum),2)
Process.Start("explorer", "(Server Name)\Job # (project
specific)\"&(OrderDir)&"000\"&(OrderNum))

End Sub

Hope this helps a little.

Have you tried dragging and dropping the folder onto the job number itself?

I hadn't tried that but just did and it works. Thanks! I'm not sure if
it's because of some of the other things I've tried, but it's all good J
