Auto-print from BAM has stopped working

I did try a bunch of things, but it was a while ago so I can't remember exactly what they are anymore. A lot of it had to do with driver and printer settings. If you want to send me print screens of your settings off-line, I can check them against mine and see if there are any differences. I do know we still occasionally get the error when they run a report with the box unchecked and checking it fixes the problem.

I also don't know why changing the printer would cause these problems. We changed from one HP laser printer to another with very similar characteristics (just a couple of years newer). I even kept the same name, just updating the device drivers, but there must be some little thing...

Hi All

For months we have been succesffully using a BAM to trigger an automatic print.

The BAM is set up on the ShipHead.ReadyToInvoice tick box. When that is ticked,
it sends the packing slip to a desisnated printer (setup in Epicor > Printers).

Yesterday, the old printer died, so I replaced it with a new printer on the
network. Everything prints to this new printer fine.

The old printer was in Epicor with an address of \\servername\StoresPrinter.

To differentiate between the old and the new, I went into the Printers section
in Epicor and changed it to \\servername\StoresPrinter1 to correspond with the
new printer.

Thats all I did. It hasnt worked since.

I have tried dozens of time. Each time I try, the System Monitor says in History
Tasks that they have complete, but in 'Reports' it says .. "System error has
occurred! Run in preview mode from System Monitor for details."

When you preview the report, there are no details, it just previews normally.

I have even tried shortening the printer name and calling it the same as before
and it still fails.

Does anyone have any idea whatsoever why it has suddenly stopped working?

I am baffled - it has worked perfectly for months until I swapped printers.

Any suggestions (no matter how ridiculous they may be) will be appreciated.

Thanks.

I have found with autoprinting that you have to "define" the printer 3
times.

First, within the application under "System Management -> Printers", sounds
like you've done that.

Second, you have to have it defined on the application server.

Third, you have to have it defined on the workstation that you're invoking
the printer from.

Also, if that doesn't work, I think at some levels it needs to be shared,
I'd try both the app server and the workstation.

It seems like overkill on printer definition, but I haven't been able to get
it to work without all these being done.

My guess would be a printer definition is missing somewhere.

Thanks for your email.

The whole thing used to work perfectly with the old printer. I literally remove
the old one and add a new one and it stops working.

I have the printer set correctly in Printers on Epicor.

What do you mean by 'you have to have it defined on the application server'?

I've got it installed on the work station that I am trying to auto print from,
but is still wont work.

What do you mean by this? ...

Also, if that doesn't work, I think at some levels it needs to be shared,
I'd try both the app server and the workstation.

The printer is shared on the same server the old printer was shared on. As far
as I am aware you can't set access levels to shared printers.

Any more suggestions would be appreciated.

We had this exact same problem when we got a new HP laser printer for our A/R Dept. I had to go into the Crystal Reports that those people used and check "No Printer (optimize for screen display)" under the Page Setup.

Hi Kirstin

Thanks, I will give that a go. It was unchecked so it may be the cause.

Why a different printer would make a difference is beyond me.
