On the other hand... we eliminated several accounting positions when we
switched to ADP which more than paid for the service. All the 401(k) and
other deductions are now handled for us as well as regulatory reporting
issues. Not to mention tax withholding submission to the state and feds. A
lot depends on the size of the organization, the extra issues you are
involved with and the complexity of yourpayroll issues (union rules.
etc...). We have been very happy with ADP since switching from DCD-Classic
(predecessor of Vantage). It has allowed us to run extremely lean in the
office. If we did our own payroll it would force us into a minimum ongoing
cost of $30K in pay and benefits to add a person. We don't pay ADP anywhere
near that.
We did purchase the ADP export module to try to streamline the data entry
but have never been able to make it work with the very convoluted overtime
rules required by our union contract.

Jay: We haven't switched, however we do use Vantage payroll. I am
very pleased with the module. We are not doing anything real fancy,
but we have not had any problems in my three years here.
Soapbox: I never really understood why others used a service like ADP.
If you have the computing power(you do if you run Vantage) and any
accounting staff at all it's a slam dunk. From my experience using
ADP and others, you do all the work anyway..they just print the checks,
and keep raising their prices.
