BAM / Alert.MfgSys Automation

I might have to explore the single sign on idea a bit more, since I am pretty good on licenses. I just have to remind my users to shutdown some of their sessions when they are working batches of BAM notifications. I agree that Epicor could have thought this integration through a bit more...

Happy Friday!

Well, I have gotten a BAM to fire off e-mails when a table gets updated. I even got the Alert.MfgSys template edited to include the attachment link with each BAM e-mail which allows the user to move directly to the record in question.

I am a bit troubled about the fact that double clicking the link just presents you with another Vantage login, and only then lets you move into the record. It seems that this can be automated a bit more, because there is no check at all whether the user is already logged in, and whether rights match and allow the recipient to view/update the record. Also, I think this creates a problem of users having multiple simultaneous logins and burning up seats. It is also a bit cumbersome to have to login over and over again if the BAM sends a lot of e-mails your way and you have to log into each and everyone of them to see which record was changed. Which brings up the question: is there a way to include details like PartNum in the BAM generated e-mail, or am I looking at a BPM?

I am wondering if someone in this group has taken this link to the next level?

Thank you!

I kind of remember the same behavior you described.
A logon displayed even though most Vantage users are logged on all day long.

I do know I stopped including links a long time ago.
Maybe this was the reason?

I remember it being demoed during Perspectives or one of the Regional User Conferences, and it seemed a lot slicker; without the need for additional logins. I wonder if I am missing an intermediary step somewhere, or if the BAM method really just is this hokey, and during the demo it was a bunch of slick sales smoke and mirrors...

Wondering if there is a slicker alternative?

In order to check the permissions the system has you log in. This verifies you have the appropriate permissions to view the link. The system works on an instance by instance basis. I'm not aware of any work around for this, just sloppy programming by Epicor.

If you are using single sign on (windows domain authentication), it
opens the target screen directly, without display a login screen or the
Epicor menu. Visually better, but behind the scenes it appears to still
be doing the full Epicor startup & license. Never researched properly,
we went with details in the email body instead.

Lots of previous posts on this list with example of adding the Part# etc
to BAM emails. Search for "BAM email" and "additional alert procedure"
- these can be as short as one line of code if the part# is all you
need. BPM emails work too, give you a more control, especially if the
TO address needs to change.

I remember it being demoed during Perspectives or one of the Regional
User Conferences, and it seemed a lot slicker; without the need for
additional logins. I wonder if I am missing an intermediary step
somewhere, or if the BAM method really just is this hokey, and during
the demo it was a bunch of slick sales smoke and mirrors...
