BAQ Link from Job to Ship To (Vantage 8.03)

Hi,

Thank you everyone for your input, it helped a lot. I finally
figured out how to make it work. In the Table Relations screen I was
linking Customer to ShipTo and Order Rel to Ship To. Once I removed
the link from Order Rel to Ship To, made the Customer link to Ship To
an Outer Join, then I setup a Criteria to filter for ShipTo.ShipToNum
= OrderRel.ShipToNum it worked just the way I wanted it to. Whoohoo!!

Linda

Hi Group,

I'm trying to create a query that shows the job number, the customer
ship to name and address. As far as I can see I need the JobProd tble
to link back to the order release. The order release contains the ship
to number, but not the customer. The order head contains both fields,
but doesn't help if each release has a different ship to number. Can
anyone point me in the right direction, please?

Add OrderDtl, OrderRel & JobProd to your query (also JobHead if you need Jobs basic status info and customer & customer shipto address tables if you need more detail than simple ID numbers).

The BAQ Phrase Builder wizard created joins should be fine.

Linda,

I try to do more complicated BAQs in Crystal first so I can figure out my
linking of Tables and then translate that to a BAQ. Since BAQ are not as
flexible as Crystal some things are just not possible.

Also what is your criteria - Open Jobs?, Open Orders?. The reason I ask is
because then it depends how you come at the data. I will assume open jobs.

I think you need the following Tables

JobHead
JobProd
OrderRel
OrdeHed
Customer
ShipTo

Then Link

JobHead to JobProd via JobNum
JobProd to OrderRel via JobNum, OrderNum, and OrderRelNum
OrderRel to OrderHed via OrderNum
OrderHed to Customer via CustNum (I like CustNum because it can never change
where CustID can)
Customer to Ship To via CustNum

Hope this helps.

For complicated BAQs, I try to start with the table(s) that have selection
criteria and run the BAQ to make sure that I've set the selection criteria
properly. Next, I add one table at a time to make sure that I've linked
properly. If at any point all of the records disappear at least I know what
step is messing me up.

Hi Scott,

Thank you. I've tried this too. I either get all ship to address
related to the customer or Vantage hangs up and I have to end the
process using task manager. I've tried using outer joins, no outer
joins.

If I was doing it in Crystal it would be easy. The Vantage query
process is horrible. It would be nice if I could just set it up in
Crystal then copy the SQL query to Vantage.

You will want to start with your ShipHead and ShipDtl tables and link your
way back to the jobs. ShipDtl will give you the jobnumber that it ships
from and ShipHead will give you the date and customer details.

Linda,

What is your criteria you are trying to get at. Open Jobs, Open Orders,
already shipped jobs. If nothing has shipped that ShipHead and ShipDtl will
not be there since these are poputlated after shipment entry.

You will want to start with your ShipHead and ShipDtl tables and link your
way back to the jobs. ShipDtl will give you the jobnumber that it ships
from and ShipHead will give you the date and customer details.

Hi Scott,

Thank you. I've tried this too. I either get all ship to address
related to the customer or Vantage hangs up and I have to end the
process using task manager. I've tried using outer joins, no outer
joins.

If I was doing it in Crystal it would be easy. The Vantage query
process is horrible. It would be nice if I could just set it up in
Crystal then copy the SQL query to Vantage.

Useful links for the Yahoo!Groups Vantage Board are: ( Note: You must have
already linked your email address to a yahoo id to enable access. )
(1) To access the Files Section of our Yahoo!Group for Report Builder and
Crystal Reports and other 'goodies', please goto:

(3) To view links to Vendors that provide Vantage services goto:

Then you join columns between the tables are wrong (and perhaps the phrase builder's choices aren;t what you need.

I've got a nearly a 1/2 dozen BAQs (varitions on your theme so similar) that work just fine on 404.

Hi Scott,

I need a list of open installation jobs showing the due date,
scheduled date, the ship to name and address for our installation
department. I've got everything but the ship to information. I can
get it to work sometimes, when Vantage does not freeze up, but it
shows every ship to related to the customer and sometimes there are
as many as a hundred of them. I'm thinking that maybe I will leave
it like that and see if I can get rid of the unrelated ship to
addresses in the dashboard.

Since the ship to code is in the OrderRel table, I think they should
have also put the CustNum field there too.

Sorry for the misunderstanding, have you tried the following: (just thinking
out loud on this as we don't do service calls)

Link back to OrderRel and then link up to OrderDtl which has the customer
number. You could then try creating a link from OrderDtl.CustNum to
ShipTo.CustNum and OrderRel.ShipToNum to ShipTo.ShipToNum.

This sounds like a pretty serious oversight on the programmers on how they
implemented this feature. It would make sense to want the ability to see
all open jobs with their destinations.

[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
Customer is Order specific (only one customer per sales order) & it makes no sense to design a db schema where they redundantly appear in the OrderDtl or OrderRel table.

Ship-to (and Ship Via, etc.,) are OrderRel specific - and that is why you can over-ride these values at the release.

The tables that define pack IDs and details within those IDs (pending shipments) are flaky. The BAQ phrase builder overlinks tables when these tables are involved. I've forgotten which key column it is, but one of the columns in these tables (on 404) isn't being populated by the applications so the expected normal key column links result in no data returned.

I'm remote right now and can't access Vantage but it is something exceeding dumb (and a clear unadmitted to by Vantage application bug) like the Company column values being left null in one of the pack out tables.

Make a note of the column links the BAQ phrase builder sets up between your multiple selected table.

Then look at the tables one at a time via BAQ and inspect the contents of those 'key' columns.

I think you will quickly find one of them is full of null value data and the source of your problems.

Linda,

I am going to try to create a BAQ based on your criteria. I will let you
know my findings as soon as I can.

Useful links for the Yahoo!Groups Vantage Board are: ( Note: You must have
already linked your email address to a yahoo id to enable access. )
(1) To access the Files Section of our Yahoo!Group for Report Builder and
Crystal Reports and other 'goodies', please goto:

I tried just using the minimum number of tables and it still does not
work correctly. I setup the phrase builder like this:

ParentData ChildData Outer Field
TableId KeyId TableId Join Relations

OrderHed OrderNum OrderRel No Company/ShipToNum
OrderHed BTCustNum ShipTo No Company/BTCustNum
(to CustNum)
OrderRel OrderShipToRel ShipTo No Company/ShipToNum

It takes 3 to 4 minutes to run and I get this:

Ord# OrdLn OrderRel OrderHed ShipTo OrderRel ShipTo
BTCustNum CustNum ShipTo ShipTo

17017 1 1 249 0000335 0306 0306
17017 1 1 249 0000590 0306 0306
17017 1 1 249 0000029 0306 0306
17017 1 1 249 0000249 0306 0306

Several pages of this for each order.

I've been working on this for days and it's driving me crazy. If
they would use a report instead I could have had this all done in
Crystal days ago.

Is there something wrong with the linking? I've tried turning on
outer join and it does not seem to make any difference.

Linda
