BAQ -- Multi-Company -- Vantage 8.03.404

Dear Kevin:

Thanks very much for your replies.

I just received an email from Epicor Support regarding my call. The
email is instructing me to do everything that I have already done the
past 2 days: Make the BAQ shared & global and make sure Sonic is
installed and running.

I will call the number she gave me in the email.

Lynn

We have 5 companies set up in our databases. Four of the companies
are associated with one another.

I created a BAQ in my Training database. I then imported it into the
Live database.

The BAQ worked fine in all 4 of the companies in the Training
database.

However, it works in only 3 of the companies of the Live database.
In the 4th company, it does not appear on the BAQ search list at all.

This company is associated in External Company Maintenance and I am
able to view other BAQs from the other companies -- just not this BAQ.

Can anyone give me a clue to what the problem might be?

The BAQ is for my Crystal Reports BOM which links 9 tables so I don't
really want to create a separate one just for this one stubborn
company.

Lynn,

Make sure that you have properly copied (made a back-up) of your BAQ and
then add them to the missing companies.

Depending on how your IT has set up your Db's you will need to make sure the
BAQ is in all of them.

You can set up BAQ's to be in one, two, all, etc. It is up to you how you
want to configure your Db's.

Thank you,

Dear Kevin:

I'm not sure I understand your first sentance. The global BAQ was
created in company A, so it has a BAQ ID of A-BOM. The company which
will not recognize it is CORE. So, when I try to re-import the A-
BOM.xml into company CORE and name it A-BOM, I get an error message
that the prefix must be CORE-.

I tried importing it as CORE-BOM and copying it to A-BOM, but Vantage
will not allow me to copy from one prefix to another.

I need the BAQ ID to be A-BOM because it is used in a BAQ Report
which I have placed on the Vantage menu.

Regarding the setup of the Db's, is there someplace other than
External Company Maintenance which will affect the use of BAQs in
multiple companies?

Thanks.

Lynn

Lynn & Kevin -
I am running into the same issue. CompanyA & CompanyB both want the BAQ names to be A-xxx and B-xxx. I created the original BAQ (A-rpt) in Company A. I can export/import, but it wants it to be B-rpt. Although, I have checked the Global box and I can see it in company B in Report Designer. If I choose A-rpt. It tells me the BAQ does not exist.
I will have to do this for several reports and do not want to recreate the BAQ, etc. over and over again.
I am new to Vantage, so if there is a setup issue, can someone please explain it to me?
Like Lynn, I do not want to have to waste time doing recreation.
Thanks!

I THINK that in order for the "Global" checkbox to copy the BAQ
across companies, you have to have Sonic installed/running.

That is true in 8.03.4xx. Before, you didn't have to have Sonic for Global
BAQ. Also, in order to access the BAQ on a dashboard in other companies,
your users must be set up with the appropriate "external companies" in User
Maintenance and they will have to sign into the other company every time the
dashboard is run. It is really a pain.

I THINK that in order for the "Global" checkbox to copy the BAQ
across companies, you have to have Sonic installed/running.

[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
We do have Sonic installed and running. I know its working because I

I didn't know about the "External Companies" in User Maintenance so I
tried it. No luck. I went in to company CORE user maintenance and
added A then logged off. Then I went in to company A user
maintenance and added CORE.

Then I rebooted Vantage, logged back in to CORE and tried to see the
BAQ named A-BOM. I still cannot see it.

What makes this so puzzling is that when I am in company CORE, I can
use other A- BAQs. It is only this one I cannot see, which happens
to be the most complicated and most important one of all.

I'm beginning to think it is a bug. I put a call in to Support.

Thanks for educating me on the user maintenance requirement for the
Multi-company dashboards!

Sorry, I can't answer those questions. Someone else did the
installation of Vantage and presented me with a working install on my
pc. I don't know anything about Sonic other than Vantage uses it for
multi-company data transfer.

I can see that it is installed by going to this menu:
System Management -- External System Integration -- External Company
Maintenance. Then in the box for External System, I select Multi-
Company, and SONIC automatically shows up as the Transfer method.
Then I do a Search for External Company ID and I see that my other
companies are on the list.

And I know that SONIC is doing its job because other BAQs that we
have created in the various companies do appear and work in multiple
companies.

Your network administrator or whoever did your Vantage install should
be able to answer your questions about SONIC.

Please let me know if you also place a Support call in with Epicor.

One other thing that you have to do is run the MultiCompany Server Process
for Sonic to be able to pick up your newly created BAQ and transfer it to
another company. Have you tried running that? System Management >

We do have Sonic installed and running. I know its working because I
can use other BAQs that were created in other companies.

[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
Looks like I need to find some really good documentation on this.

I started here about 3 weeks ago. They had a consultant come in and do the install.
Unfortunately, it seems like no one really knows what he did.
So, I am trying to figure this all out.
I have gotten all the User Guides. Unfortunately, I don't see any documentation on Setup.
I guess that is what I am going to have to find.

Thank you all for the help and insight!

OK, I went into Multi-Company Server Process and the box is checked
for Continuous Processing, 1 minute delay, Schedule "Now", and there

Then I went in to System Agent Maintenance and saw that
SystemTaskAgent is started and Multi-Company Process is listed as a
task.

Everything seems to look good. I have rebooted Vantage dozens of
times; I still can't see A-BOM BAQ while in company CORE. But, I
sure am learning a lot about multi-company data transfers for future
reference.

Lynn,

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner, I was out most of the day.

You seem to be on the right track; however you will need to know if you have
all of the proper check boxes checked throughout the system.

I would recommend a call to your CAM to see if you can get any "free"
(ha-ha) advice or if Epicor could look at your configuration.

There are several ways to set up what you are doing. I have clients that
have Multi-site / multi-companies that only allow global BAQ's for some of
their divisions while others are completely independent of each other. That
is why I was asking you how you have set up your Db's. There are many
decisions to make when you set up your multi-company solution. Without
seeing how you are set up I can only speculate what may or may not be set up
or missing in your configuration.

Are you running SQL or just Progress? You have other options depending on
how you set up your environment, one server, multiple servers, SANS, etc. It
can get very detailed in a hurry.

Good luck on your quest for multi-company knowledge! You can give me a call
if you have any other questions.

Thank you,
