Intermec has scanners that will work well with the MES Handheld module
in V8.x The handheld module is run using terminal services so the data
is realtime.
Can someone provide a source for bar code reading equipment for
reading traverers & etc. Our current equipment has difficulty reading
the Vantage tight format.
Symbol makes a line of readers that are very nice. I had the same issue with
very tinny Bar codes that fit on small gages. The part numbers start with HD
(High Density)

We are currently on Vantage 8.0. We would like to add bar code
readers to a number of our processes. The first place we would like
to start is to use a bar code reader in our inventory cycle counting.
We would like to be able to scan the part number on the bar codes on
multiple boxes and have the bar code reader accumulate the number of
each part that has been scanned. Once we have scanned all of the
boxes in a particular bin or warehouse, we would then like to download
that count into Vantage. We would like to have this same
functionality to scan incoming boxes in the receiving area and in
shipping. It appears that Vantage's bar code functionality doesn't
provide this. Any ideas?
Seeing no other responses...
I have ideas, but no solutions as of yet.
We are still on 6.1, but looking to use 8.0x to solve this. Right now we
use a Wasp batch scanner to scan inventories and collect them in a text file
(.csv), and then open them in excel and manually input them into Vantage. I
am (hoping) to be able to use 8.0x and it's copy past functions to be able
to copy/past from the excel into vantage, though it may not be that simple.
I (expect) it may require the use of service connect to finish the project,
but we are just starting to test 8.0x and have not made it to this detail
level yet.
I hope this idea give you a path to seek a real solution. If not, good luck
anyway and please share your results either way.

You can solve both these problems with web services. But it is a little
more involved.

We are in the beginning stage of using scanner to collect data for
physical inventory and for material movements

We have done a proof of concept using Symbols MC3090plus -

This runs pocket pc wm 5.x and can do a remote desktop connection to one
of our terminal servers

We wrote a small app (screen size is pretty small on the scanner) in
progress to scan in a lot validate the lot on the partlot table, display
lot information, verify that it had a qty in the on hand field and
update a DateXX - vb field.

We are on the 6.x release

One of the projects for next year will be to write other applications to
collect finish good information and write records out to a physical or
cycle count group - tag entry table. (still trying to figure out the
costs of scanners and waiting to see what $$ are available)

This is the way we are going.
