We bumped into this problem - the assembly field is disabled when that
screen opens, and the tab out of the job number field goes to the wrong
field before assembly & operation fields get enabled.
We tried setting an inter-character delay on the scanner to slow it
down, worked ~90% of the time. Check your scanner manual, it might be
adjustable enough to get 100% for you.
To get it 100% working, we had a consultant write a customization that
added a new multi-line text box on the start production activity screen.
When a barcode is scanned there it separates the pieces & fills in the
job + assembly + operation fields. Our case was not typical - upgrading
from Vantage 6 with a return instead of tab embedded in our barcode, and
we didn't want to have to re-print travelers for all open jobs our
conversion weekend. Probably there's a better solution possible.

I have created a barcode scan that combines job/assembly/operation with
a tab between each. I can verify the scan works (as input to a BAQ
report prompt criteria), but it does not work in MES. The issue seems to
be possibly that we need a "wait time" between tabs and next portion of
combined barcode? Does anyone know how to add a "wait time"? For
example, in MES, I can scan the same barcode and count for 3 seconds and
only the job and a tab will actually process...
