Barcode Printers - Good, better, best? (V-6.1)

Doug,
I use a label outside of Vantage, but use Vantage to call the label and
export the information for the label.
I use cheap DYMO labelers at each station with USB or serial connections
(USB needs to be unplugged and plugged back in about once a week). It's
slick, uniform and cheap although not necessarily appropriate for everyone
out there.
Just a thought.

We just purchased and installed a Zebra 105SL to replace an older 105Se barcode printer. It's working great for us so far.

It depends, (Lots and Lots of labels real fast) or onesies twosies on
demand, or both. 4 X 6 inch standard size or lots of custom sizes. Lots of
flexibility or Dumb as a Rock simple.

In a Dumb as a Rock Simple, Only one standard size, look at Eltron Printers

If you need speed, Volume, Flexibility, Z4M's are great. Get one with a
cutter option and continuous stock and you can generate labels from .75
inches up in length and 4 inches wide. Be prepared for a learning curve if
you change label lengths a lot. (push the wrong setup button and you'll
spin 100 feet of stock onto the floor before you can blink.) Also if you
use the print server option be sure to isolate the Zebra's on their own
print server, don't mix with other printers. The drivers like to crash the
spooler and you'll shut down every printer on that server.

I use both printer types.
