Almost all barcode readers are plug-n-play, no drivers needed. All the brains are in the device itself. The data being sent to the computer is just text... basic keyboard input. Stick with USB. If you get old style PS2, you have to use a wedge and they can be tempermental. You can use them on pretty much any PC. I've also used them on HP thin clients. You can plug multiple readers into one PC (not sure why you would need to though). I haven't tried any wireless ones yet. I'm sure if you got a Bluetooth one it would be fine on most PCs.

Thanks, Everyone for the information on barcode readers.
So far I have the Motorola LS2208 and the Wasp WLS9500.
Has anyone used Wireless barcode readers?
And does anyone know or have a list of Hardware requirements.
What is needed for computer hardware?
Does each reader need a dedicated computer or can you run multiple readers on one computer?
Thanks for the help!
Mike

We're using Wasp WLS9500 Scanners for data collection to read a single
barcode on the traveller that includes Job #, Assy Sequence, and Operation
Sequence. I spent many hours a few years ago with Symbol and Intermec
scanners (don't remember if they were the models mentioned), with their
tech support people, and could not get them to read the combined barcodes.
Try to get loaners to test so you can pick the best one to fit your
needs.

We are looking to use bar code readers on the shop floor for data
collection.
We are currently using Vantage 8.03.409C and I would like to hear from
anyone that is using bar code readers on their shop floor.
If there is any advice or recommendations from the users group I would
greatly appreciate it.
Thanks
