Barcodes that won't scan from Vantage

Make sure there is white space (blank area) before and after the barcode. Sometimes the margin is different when printing from Vantage than from Crystal. This problem is worse when printing to labels. If it is printing too close to the edge then it may not have enough blank space before the barcode or even worse be missing the 1st bar or two.Â
I have seen this printing on different printers.

Â
Hello everyone,

I'm ready to deploy some labels into Vantage, but for some reason, the Barcodes will not scan when the label is printed out of Vantage.

The barcodes scan fine out of Crystal. The barcode font is installed on both the server and the client.

The wierd thing is that I have other forms and labels with barcodes where the codes DO scan out of Vantage.

This is very perplexing. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Leslie Martin

Do the barcodes have short (two character) sequences in them (e.g.
operation or sequence numbers)?

If so, you'll have to configure your barcode scanner to deal with
short sequences. There's usually a magic setup card with the scanner
that lets you do that. There's some discussion on the list a while back
about this.

I would also remind you that you cannot use a field directly and just assign the bar code font. You MUST use a formula (usually Crystal) and add an Asterisks "*" to the front and end of the field you are trying to scan.

i.e. "*" & Part.PartNum * "*"

Good Luck,

Hello Dave,

Yes, I have the asterisks in there, with this kind of formula "*"&{field}&"*"

This works in several other forms and labels, just not this one.

@Brian

I don't have any characters other than the field.

Thanks,

Lelsie

So, my next guess would be Brian's suggestion. If the field data is 2 characters or less then you may have to configure the scanner minimum to 1.
