Best Practice for Restricting Inventory Transfers Between Bins

Hi everyone,

What is the recommended way in Epicor Kinetic to restrict inventory transfers between specific bins based on user security groups?

For example, users outside the Quality group should not be able to move inventory from a bin “XXtest01” to another bin, while authorized users should be allowed to complete the transfer.

Is there a native Epicor security setting or process for this, or would a BPM be required?

Any guidance on the preferred approach would be appreciated.

As far as I know you would need a BPM, there may be a way that I have not seen but AFAIK that is how you would do this.

i would probably put the bins into ZONES (see zone maintenance and bin maintenance for the zone fields).
THEN i would write a BPM that would restrict activity against bins that are in those zones to only people in a special security group you define.

This is an important subtle detail: Tim is expanding your request to “activity,” I think, because inventory transfers are not the only thing that will pull stuff from the bin.

Backflushing can be relentless - I never imagined that it would pull from a non-nettable bin (chew on that for a minute). We named the bin DMR, but the system does not treat it like it is special.

I think it is the advanced material management module that allows you to set a warehouse as quality and restrict who can do transactions to the bins in warehouse
