Bin description unique. Why?

So we are trying to use the bin description field as a workaround for the planning contract hijacking the actual bin number. If we have a planning contract bin for a job and the parts are placed at A2, we would put A2 in the description. After the job is closed and the next one comes in, we may use A2 again, so the planning contract bin for the second job would also have description A2. I didn’t think to check this, but for some reason E-10 is requiring the bin description to be unique, so this will cause a problem. Does anyone know why it’s set up like that or a workaround for it? (UD field I’m assuming… ughhh)

Did you ever find a solution for this. Im trying to do something similar without using a UD field. Is there a way to turn off the unique requirement?

I also noticed that data dictionary says it can be blank, but epicor doesnt like that.

I did not find a workaround for this. We just basically had the guys “Just know” where it was. It was a bit janky, but it helped with purchasing.

I always assumed it was because combo boxes only show the description by default and if everything is the same (or blank) then you won’t know which bin you’re picking.
