BOM and subassemblies

That's very interesting, I had no idea... That certainly is a possibility.

That brings up another idea regarding templates. Can you describe how a template is set up and utilized?

Let me begin by saying that we are not yet fully live, but have implemented production and materials management over the last 5 weeks. I am trying a Job structure that uses multiple sub assemblies. Currently we have no single person in engineering who can complete the BOM. The job is passed from person to person. At the end of the line one of our engineers wants to break down the all encompassing BOM into sub assemblies. Essentially I have purchasing creating the base BOM.

We see that you cannot drag materials from "Materials" to Sub assemblies. Can anyone offer insight into a plan other than deleting and "re-adding" materials, having moved them to the appropriate sub assembly?
One way to consider is to enter the BOM you are working on in the METHODS
tab. Then you will see it in the tree AND in the METHODS tab.

At this point you can pull from the source BOM (in the methods tab) into the
target BOM (they are the same BOM), if that makes sense. The caveat is that
you will have to delete the target edits AFTER you pull from the SOURCE...or
you won't have anything to pull from.

Let me know if you need more clarification.

Let me begin by saying that we are not yet fully live, but have implemented
production and materials management over the last 5 weeks. I am trying a Job
structure that uses multiple sub assemblies. Currently we have no single
person in engineering who can complete the BOM. The job is passed from
person to person. At the end of the line one of our engineers wants to break
down the all encompassing BOM into sub assemblies. Essentially I have
purchasing creating the base BOM.

We see that you cannot drag materials from "Materials" to Sub assemblies.
Can anyone offer insight into a plan other than deleting and "re-adding"
materials, having moved them to the appropriate sub assembly?
