Bypassing Material request queue

Hello,

Is there a way to completely not use the material request queue ?

Thanks !

I don’t think there’s a way to simply turn the Material Request Queue off.

But you should be able to limit it by training your users to just not make requests. There’s a checkbox on the Employee records that grants the ability to make material requests… so you could turn that off on all employees.

We don’t use the material request queue. Our manufacturing group just prints pick tickets for what they need and brings them to our Shipping/Receiving department. S/R department then physically pulls the materials off the shelf, uses the Issue Material menu to push the parts to the job within the system, and then physically delivers them.

There are other settings throughout the system. Resource Groups and Resource records have an “Auto Move” checkbox. We have that checked on all resources/groups.

From Field Help: When false, the default is to generate a move request. When true the default is to not generate a move request. These defaults can be seen when entering a quantity and ending an activity in labor entry.

I’m sure there are other areas that generate requests… not sure how to definitively find them all.

Thanks

What @dcamlin said about checking the Auto Move box everywhere you find it, plus:

I have post-processing BPMs to uncheck the Request Move box when a new record is created for Non-Conformance line, RMA Receipt line, and RMA Disposition, because the system will check those by default.

Other places there is a Request Move box that doesn’t get checked by default that I customized the application to make those read only so they cannot be checked.

However, there’s still some processes (like PO Receipts) that create a Move Request record without there being any Request Move box/field. Most of the time that’s not a big deal, but sometimes those interfere with other processes down the line and users get the “Material Request record exists” error and you have to manually find them and delete them. I’ve seen on this forum where others have created things that when those new lines get created they are auto-deleted. I personally haven’t tried tackling those, yet.

All that to say, a toggle it on/off switch in configuration settings would be great (and I think there’s an Idea or two out there for that).

We find the MRQ helpful for our processes what struggles are you having with it that you want to bypass it?

@Randy Mainly that when we want to close manually a sales order line and there is a material request, we need to delete it before closing the line, which happens quite frequently.

Oh yeah that one can be annoying if the queue isn’t processed consistently.
