Can anyone help - system shutdown

HI All,
Back up at 8:30am. I don't have the full scoop from our other system admin, but she talked to Vantage this morning and it had to do with some environment variables that were messed up (SOMEHOW??). Thanks for all of your input.

Several things possibly happened over the past week. Last night I simply restarted the server.

Possible causes:
Last Week our system admin. noticed our C: Drive getting FULL, and saw that a certain TNG DB Server folder had over 400MB of info. So, that folder got deleted, along with all files (per advice from a local computer NT guy). This caused, I think, two services to stop (CA-Unicenter WorldView Agent, and TNG DB Server), which they assumed had nothing to do with Vantage, and didn't affect Vantage at the time.

Yesterday, I was fidling with Crystal's Web Componenet Server on the NT Server machine. A final step was to reboot the computer, which I did late last night. That's when Vantage quit (or rather didn't restart) after the Reboot.

Here's the complete scenario as I understand it.

--------------------
When NT server is restarted, the following error occurs: "At least one service or driver failed during system startup. Use Event Viewer to examine the event log for details"

Event View (under Log/System) shows this error: "The CA-Unicenter WorldView Agent service depends on the TNG DB Server which failed to start because of the following error: The system cannot find the path specified."

-----------
The Vantage error occurs when you try to start Vntgserv. It says: "Vntgeserv ERROR: Cannot find lock (.lk) file." Look in Event Viewer.

Event Viewer (under Log/Applications) has an error that says: "Broker 0: This version of PROGRESS does not support a database server. (1733)"

I cannot find what any of these errors mean, nor how to fix them.

---------------
The four things I was working on before this happened:
1. TNG folder deleted.
2. Changes to the "Seagate Pageservice" service, including changing accounts. I have tried turning Service off and setting it as before. Neither helped.
3. Turned "Seagate Web Component Server" off just as a precaution after the crash.
4. I had changed the Merant ODBC driver from a User DSN to a System DSN. I deleted the System DSN to try to fix the NT problem, but nothing changed.

The missing lock file (*.lk) occurs after an illeagal shutdown (power
outage? crash?, etc.). You should see if the dcdv7.lk file is missing
from server c:\vantage\db directory. If it's missing, I think that you
can restore the dsdv7.lk file from your backup to the vantage\db
directory.

Good luck

Actually if I remember correctly (it's been a long time since I've seen
this)
the dcdv7.lk should NOT exist if vantage is not running.
When Vantage is shut down correctly it deletes the .lk file.
If this file does exist and Vantage is not running you should be able
to delete this file from the \vantage\db directory and then
start vantage.

Yeah Jeff I think you're right.

The .lk file is there when the program is running, coupled with the
error message stating it can't find the file, made me think to ADD the
file. But you triggered a memory from long ago about DELETING the file.

I'm sorry if I confused Trof (and anyone else).
